ABOUT ME
Hello! I'm Basil, a 23 year old student from Scotland. I spend my fall/winters studying English literature, and my summers trying to see as much of the world as possible. I used couchsurfing for the first time this summer, staying on couches and floors with all sorts of wonderful people all across North America. Since coming back to Scotland, I've tried out hosting, and loved it just as much.
I'm relaxed and enjoy getting involved and going with the flow. There is nothing more satisfying to me than being taught a fresh way of looking at things and I think passion is the most wonderfully infectious quality, whether its about Mozart or mozzarella. I enjoy shooting the breeze and chatting about ideas over a few beers as much as I enjoy anything.
PHILOSOPHY
You can't stay in your corner of the forest, waiting for others to come to you; you have to go to them sometimes.” - Winnie the Pooh

Interests
Exploring, hiking trips, picking up new music, long conversations, writing, parties, rugby, reading - I love to read more than anything, and am always carrying a few novels - book swapping is a favorite part of meeting new people - at the moment reading 'Green Grass, Running Water' which is a blast!
I've become an enthusiastic cook in last couple years, and am always on the look out for new recipes. If anyone who comes to stay with me could teach me a new recipe, I would love that!

Music, Movies, and Books
A few books that I really love:
Mohsen Hamid - The Reluctant Fundamentalist
Charles Bukowski - Post Office
Joseph Heller - Catch 22
DBC Pierre - Vernon God Little
I enjoy all kinds of music, and especially like stuff that gets people moving, from Fat Freddy's Drop, Tribal Seeds to Pretty Lights. Other favorites include Buena Vista Social Club, Van Morrison, Gorillas, Roots Manuva, the Strokes, A Tribe Called Quest and much more
Movies - I'll watch anything!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Leh, Ladakh jumps out as maybe the most beautiful place I've ever been, completely jaw dropping...Hong Kong's meat market was definitely the smelliest!
Teach, Learn, Share
I think probably have more to learn than to teach! I write fiction in my spare time and I'm always looking to compare notes, swap stories and pick up advice from other writers. Of course, lets cook together and maybe point in the direction of a nice cafe/bar.
Otherwise, please teach me something of anything you might have going on!
