Overview
About Me
Hi! My name is Basílio, I'm a 24 year old Portuguese guy who moved to Italy for work in September, after 6 months of travelling around Southeast Asia, Greece and Turkey. I've always been fascinated by travelling, but since I solo traveled for the first time around Southeast Asia for 3 months, my perspective on travelling change dramatically.
I'm an extrovert that loves to meet new people and also an organised person that likes the mix between planning and "going with the flow" kind of travel. Nothing fascinates me more than hearing a new story and I love learning the History of the places I travel to, noticing how that History shapes the people around it.
I love art in general: music, movies, literature, comedy, architecture. As I'm travelling I'm getting more and more into History, loving to be surprised by it!
Most of my night outs involve a beer with friends and a nice conversation, nothing over the top. I am a big fan of live music, going to concerts pretty much every week and in the summer I hit all the music festivals I can in Portugal.
I´m a big big fan of sports, having practiced football, tennis, basketball, volleyball and, in the past 3 years, fell in love with surfing! I am going crazy for trekking, getting very much into it as I travelled. I learned how to dive recently in Thailand and now I just want to explore the unknown underwater world everywhere I go.
Recently I started a podcast documenting my everyday life in my travels throughout Southeast Asia for 3 months. It's not about advices on how to travel but just my experience, making it approachable, fun, and showing that even thought it may be difficult to start, it is possible to travel long term. I am loving the experience and feedback I've been getting from friends, family and sometimes from people I don't know that listened to an episode! I plan on recording multiple seasons as I go on travelling.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I want to experience different ways of travelling and Couchsurfing is the perfect way to travel locally. Meeting locals, experiencing their reality and looking at a city through their eyes, through the eyes of the people that actually live there and call it home. Because I am fascinated with stories, there's nothing better than hearing it told by locals.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I'm mostly into Indie Rock and Alternative but love to explore all kind of genres. I absolutely love live music, specially when I'm travelling!
Movies: Forest Gump, Mr.Nobody, Kill Bill, Midsommar, The Lighthouse, Apocalypse Now, to name a few.
Books: My favourite writers include Valter Hugo Mãe, Charles Bukowski, Ken Kesey, Aldous Huxley, Gabriel García Márquez, Yuval Noah Harari.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In my 3 months Southeast Asia trip, I spent two days trekking in one of the oldest rainforests in the world in Peninsular Malaysia. In the rainy season, the leeches were everywhere and to escape predators we slept in a cave under the pouring rain, having collected wood for fire and river water for cooking. The wildest thing I've ever done, quite literally!
Teach, Learn, Share
I started a podcast documenting my travels in Southeast Asia, so I can share that experience, maybe teach or give some piece of advice for people who think about doing it also. I always have something to learn from everyone I meet and hope I can contribute with some food for thought for other people.
