About Me
My home is where the Road (to the beach) is - at least that was true for the many years I used weekends or holidays to throw my surfboard in the back of my Volkswagen Bus (back then there actually were plenty of reasons to like Volkswagen) and start to a new travelling adventure. Of course I already enjoyed travelling in my early youth, but these journeys with the Bus, allowed me to grasp the full extent of the beauty of travelling. More often than not, I did end up somewhere different than expected, often due to the many encounters with fellow travellers or locals along the road and enjoyed the experience, the exchange of thoughts and ideas and almost everywhere great hospitality. Though I am a very social person, who likes to engage in vivid discussions, laughter or simply laying around in the sun with good people, I also enjoyed the solitude in the Bus, whenever I was on myself. To me it is almost a meditative experience to be on the road and to be able to wander around in your own thoughts - moments that remind you what really counts. I am an actor by profession and worked quite a few years on stage and in front of the camera before I decided to complement my artisticc approach to human thoughts, behaviour and feelings with an academic one and I thoroughly enjoyed to explore both fields ever since. My academic Journey took me from the Freie Universität Berlin to the University of California Berkeley, to a short stop over at the London School of Economics and Political Science and finally to the Universität Witten Herdecke. Currently I am a Visiting Scholar at the Psychology Department of Harvard University where I focus on the research of mindfulness and Virtual Reality.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I recently had to find a place to sleep for two nights in Bad Arolsen, a little village in Germany where I was working for a research project. I did not expect that it would be hard to find a small hotel there, but I was rather wrong, obviously this little village attracts quite a few people, even Airbnb had nothing to offer that day. That was the moment when I recalled that a long long time ago something like couchsurfing existed and I found out it is still around. At the house where I ended up I did not only find a place to sleep, but also enjoyed mind stimulating discussions and a lot of laughter and found out that mutual interests existed, so we kept in touch. That was such a pleasant experience that I am ready to be back on a couch sooner or later!
