Overview
About Me
fully vaccinated
I am that “adventurer” who likes a comfortably non-adventurous safety margin. On the other hand I was attested a somewhat risky style of riding my bicycle in cities. I am an engineer and I like to build things with my hands.
Professionally, I am into computational fluid mechanics which involves physics, coffee, and a blend of python/fortran/tex, but typed on a nice mechanical keyboard, so it feels more like building something.
I play saxophones in two bigbands, and am quite passionate about fine arts and (product) design.
A prototypical day in a new city involves some strolling, to explore the architectural landscape, passing by some ateliers, maybe visiting an exhibition, and a flea market, if I am lucky. At the end of the day I would enjoy a beer at a Jazz club.
Back in my youth I was very fortunate to spend one year in the United States living with a host family. I enrolled in High School, played in a marching band and in a show choir, and got to know the USA as a beautiful and marvelously diverse country, shaped by very kind people.
Having spent one year of my studies in Lyon, France is the second country that I am in love with.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I like to get to know people who live in the places that I am visiting. To me, travelling is about broadening my horizon and that involves good conversations with locals.
Interests
I like to physically create things and enjoy to gather a broad range of skills that enable me to do so. I take pleasure in designing and building furniture, although the process of iterating drafts, designing it in CAD, to actually manufacturing it is far from efficient. I am engaged in a shared workspace, kind of like a fablab (http://konglomerat.org), which gives me access to many more tools and materials than I could own and store myself, along with a great network of people.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music ...
Jazz, Pop, Hip-Hop, Funk, Classical Music ... there is so much good music in all the genres, especially if they have some Jazz fused in.
Movies ...
Forrest Gump is my all-time favorite, but I have not seen many movies in the past then years ... like a handful per year. If I do watch a movie I do it in a movie theater.
Books ...
I have really enjoyed Naked Lunch, On the road, Le Voyage d'Hector, Charles Bukowsky.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Amazing .. as in amazing experience: Having played the saxophone in marching band at Hurricane High School, WV, while staying there for a year as an exchange student.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you photography, processing raw files (darktable), Cyanotype, CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion360), LaTeX (I have been using it on a daily basis for almost 6 years), vector graphics (inkscape), I could help you with coding (python, Fortran, MPI-parallelization)
What I Can Share with Hosts
A bottle of wine ... depending on their pereference, of course.
Time ... I would appreciate to spend time together, but I am not demanding it.
Helping with cooking, cleaning dishes.
