About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Not really a 'mission' kind of guy :). But currently noodling around Europe trying to make some new friends

ABOUT ME

Oooo - bit of this, bit of that ....

PHILOSOPHY

I think we are all learning. And if we could remember it more often we'd all find things a bit easier and be a bit happier.

Oh, and laugh. It's important you know :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

By making travel around this lovely island a teensy bit easier and hopefully more enjoyable.....

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have couches, will host

Everyone I have met through here has been without fail polite, friendly and a joy to host.

Some have even introduced me to new food, and for someone that regards making an omelette as a dangerous adventure into the gastronomic hinterland, this is a good thing.

Interests

Yikes. Well, I guess all of the usual stuff, active (although my body appears intent on progressively dismantling itself through injury) and cultural, fun and more serious.

I suppose what it really boils down to for me is trying to spend time with people that have a real interest in stuff - I think doing anything can be compelling in the right company.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am kind of a sucker for movies - happy to let them take me into their world and have a holiday from mine for a while. Even the bad ones often get me. Let's see... Skeletons, Another Year, In Bruges, Gran Torino, Hard Candy (v old now), Chico and Rita, Max and Mary, Senna, Kill list, Inception....

On a recently reading tilt - lots of Graham Green, John Steinbeck, The Bell Jar was also great. Trying to read Moby Dick right now, but I think Melville is a bit of a windbag. Sorry all.

Music - pretty much anything goes within reason. Disco is not within reason. Nor is modern R&B. It really, really isn't.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Surfing* in NZ at 4am on a completed deserted beach with nothing - not a sound - to disturb the calm.

(* Anyone who has seen me surf would probably take issue with such an unconditional use of the verb. So - for the technically-minded I was actually floating on a surfboard at 4am, taking regular breaks to be thrown into the sea.)

Teach, Learn, Share

Doctrine and dogma are NOT wisdom. The number of people I meet that continually fall back on one or the other, or both, continues to astonish me

Look at my face (astonished face). See?

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Canada, Morocco, New Zealand, Portugal, South Korea
