About Me

CURRENT MISSION

finding out new things about the world and myself ... a neverending task :-))

ABOUT ME

A pretty normal person with an interest in the world and other people. Settled with partner and kids, job and a overall rather unspectacular life. Young enough to dream and old enough to accept reality.
In terms of characterisation there seem to be two particular traits people comment positively about (at least I hope) and these are exactly the things other people might dislike about me: my sometimes cynical, black humor and my honesty. Besides that I would describe myself as polite, helpful and friendly. I treat others with respect and .... well, umhh .... I am afraid I fulfill some of the prejudices about germans: I am (mostly) organized, reliable, maybe even efficient ... but there is some hope .... I am not always on time ;-)

PHILOSOPHY

try to make a difference ....
besides that .... just live .... it's the only life you get

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been to couchsurfing meetings, joined groups and generally spread the idea when talking to others.
Many people, especially in my age :-) I talk to feel that this is not for them .. shame. I think they miss out on something really worthwhile ... connecting.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

so far so good ... met only nice people, interesting and talkative.
Before couchsurfing became 'big' I traveled using the 'hospitalityclub'. Same idea and for a while I was the regional ambassador ... but then the volunteer only option made it too slow and clunky.

Couchsurfing can make the world a more humane and kinder place to be, a place where we emphasise the things we have in common and learn in areas where we differ.

Interests

basically people in general with some emphasis on observing human behaviour, different cultures, sport if there's a ball involved, music from classic to rock and jazz, riding my motorbike, reading and surfing the internet. recently I took up cycling and I feel this is a hobby that will stay a while.

Music, Movies, and Books

recently I read "the book thief" and started "the white tiger";
at the moment I listen to "alexi murdoch";
last film I saw in cinema .... oh, aehhh .... since I got this fast internet connection .. :_)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

traveling alone on a motorbike through the indian himalayas range

Teach, Learn, Share

internet [funny enough this is what I thought I could help people with when I joined couchsurfing over 10 years ago. time has moved on and through job and family commitments I seem to have fallen behind in my knowledge ... guess I have to re-learn :-)]

What I Can Share with Hosts

happy to listen, happy to learn, happy to help
I travel to learn about places and people (not necessarily history) and, if you are interested in it, then I can share experiences and impressions.
Depending on the journey and the mode of transport I might not be looking for an overnight stay. If I do then the social aspect is the driving force and not the 'free' aspect (the latter is a welcome side effect).
I am very happy to shop and cook with the host(s), help in the house or contribute anything else needed.
I am house trained, clean up after myself, get on with kids as well as pets and generally try to leave a good impression.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Laos, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Cambodia, Germany, India, Romania, United Kingdom
