About Me
UPDATE!
It's been years since I was on Couchsurfing (used to meet with fellow couchsurfers while I was living in Australia), and all of a sudden I'm proper adulting with a house of my own and everything. So I decided to give it another go. I've left my original profile intact below; I think it's an interesting snapshot of who I was back then! As for who I am now: I'm a lot more settled, strangely, and happy to host or meet up with fellow couchsurfers. Career hijinks have sadly put the brakes on any more epic travel adventures for me, at least for the time being...
CURRENT MISSION
Gain experience, perspective and direction... Return with a better idea of who I am, and what I want from life
ABOUT ME
I'm half British and half Singaporean; I probably have growing up in Singapore to thank for my love of sea sports and the outdoors, as well as my interests in travelling, other cultures, and *all* foods.
Hobby wise, my main passions are windsurfing, kitesurfing, sailing, wakeboarding, snowboarding and scuba diving. Work wise, I have a medical degree. I also have a visceral reluctance to commit the best years of my life to a seven year specialist training programme, which is why for the past few years I've worked short-term, non-training locum shifts, and done a lot of travelling. It's definitely a controversial choice, and it's definitely harmed my chances of career progression, but it's also given me the freedom to seek out other life experiences, things which I find important.
PHILOSOPHY
My personal philosophy is in something of a state of turmoil at the moment. In fact, it's something that I hope travelling and meeting people will help me fix. It's definitely something I can talk about over a cup of tea or a bottle of beer, but not so conducive to being squirted into a little text box.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
To be honest, I haven't been that active on CS so far. I signed up with my housemate when I was living in Melbourne, and although we were happy to host we ended up mostly going out with groups of CSers, both local and visiting. It was a good introduction to the scene, and if circumstances had been different I'd have got more involved.
Now, though, I find myself on this fairly epic solo overland trip, and I remembered CS... I'm hoping to surf, and to meet like minded people along my route. There's space in the car, too, for any other travellers along the way!

Music, Movies, and Books
Wide and voracious taste in books, fairly openminded taste in music, and more nonplussed about most films. I'll list something from each: Murakami, Hybrid, and Lost In Translation.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Took a year out to drive from the UK to Cape Town
Teach, Learn, Share
Happy to teach anything I know something about to anyone with a genuine interest. Things like windsurfing, kitesurfing, freediving and snowboarding I can teach. I'm a medical doctor, so I guess I could teach things like basic first aid.
