About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To work thoroughly in my new job, to be able to discover and learn more, NOT ONLY in art history.

ABOUT ME

I live with my parents and my almosy 100-year old grandma, in a two-storey house in the Wroclaw suburbs. I had one sister who moved to U.S. in 2003. Now we contact with her only by email, phone and skype. She comes to us severeal times within a year, most often for Christmas, but also in other occasions. I am willing to know more, so most of the time I spend working. But during vacations I try to rest a little, although from now on, it will be more and more difficult. Maybe sometimes I tend to waist a little time, because some activities weren't well planned before, but I strive to give up such a habit. I think I gained more courage to travel abroad, after my first spontaneous travel to Romania that took place in 2000. Since 2000 I have undertaken every year a trip abroad. I hope I won't lose this courage. I am also quite supersitious, which as well makes my life harder.

PHILOSOPHY

I think it's important to think more about others, than about oneself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I regard CS really worth recommending. I have some experience, particularly while travelling within Europe, for holiday, as well as for study tours. I have been hosted by many people so far, in diverse cities and towns within Europe. For more details, please consult the feedbacks, I wrote for the people I stayed by. I myself had only one guest, but surely hope to have more in the future.

Interests

Art History, travelling, foreign languages, history of mining and technique in general, European railways. I like meeting new people, mainly if there is an opportunity to practise foreign languages, that I know. Apart from that I am interested in learning foreign languages. Presently I speak only four foreign languages and it's important for me, to speak perfectly. But maybe in the future there will some more place in my brain for another language (heh heh!).

Music, Movies, and Books

I am quite busy, so I don't have much time to visit cinema or read books. If I read anything, I do that mostly during vacations. Last year I had an opportunity to read a bit more, some books by Remarque (e.g. "Im Westen nichts Neues", "Der Himmel kennt keine Guenstlinge" etc.) or all novels by G. Boccaccio, collected in "Deccameron". I also enjoyed reading "Unbearable lightness of Being" by Milan Kundera. As for films that I have seen and I regard as very good, I can mention for instance: "The Beautiful Mind", "Frida", "5*2", "Sophie Scholl", "Talk to Her", "The Bad Education", "The Girl with a Pearl", "I served an English King", based on a novel by Bohumil Hrabal. As for Music, I enjoyed listening to Early Music, for a long time, meaning Renaissance and Baroque Music. But now I am not so enthusiastic about it anymore. But now I particularly enjoy listening the Balcan turbofolk, which I discoverd mostly on the Internet. A little time ago my favorite singer in that field was Elvira Rahić, but it was also nice listening to the group Hari mata Hari and SMS (Samir Mujagić). Now I prefer or even love listening to some songs by Dragana Mirković and Seka Aleksić. Although I am a man, I try to cook or bake something. Actually I had to learn it, since for about one year I have been eating gluten-free and still keep trying out diverse receipts. In this case (meaning NOT in all cases), I really have to confess: what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's difficult to say, wnat amazing thing I have done in my life. But it may be amazing, that I graduated in secondary school on the profile of Mathematics and Phisics, but even though I chose to study and write a PHD in History of Art. One might think I should work at a University after graduating in PHD studies. But the reality brought me to do something else, i.e. translations and working in a library (to be quite honest, I DO enjoy both jobs and by no means miss my PHD studies!)
