About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To experience everything the world has to offer, with open eyes and open mind.

ABOUT ME

I'm an easy-going Aussie with an insatiable appetite for travel. I'm an environmentalist, a small-scale adventurist, and an enthusiast for life. When I travel, I typically base my destinations on ancient ruins, incredible wildlife, crazy adrenalin thrills, or all of the above. I love to meet people from all different cultures and to try to see the world through their eyes.

PHILOSOPHY

Personal philosophy not so much, but I do have a list of life goals that I someday want to achieve. They're a bit obtuse, but if anybody can help me tick them off, it'll probably be Couch Surfers!
- to retrace Alfred Russell Wallace's journey through the Malay Archipelago
- to explore the ice-fumaroles of Mt Erebus
- to own and train a falcon
- to live in Sweden for a year (though I may have been successfully turned to Norway... JON!)
- to see a Javan rhino in the wild
- to own a bush block somewhere in the Top End
- to work for CBS on The Amazing Race for one season

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I used to live on Christmas Island. And while I was there, I used to host. I was the best host on the island (except for when my housemate signed up to CS, and then we were equally the best hosts). But now I live in New Zealand, I can't host, and being a povo uni student once more, I can't really travel, either :(

Here's what I USED to have in this section of my profile, before I moved away:

Unfortunately, due to the steep costs of flights, not many Couch Surfers actually make it here. However, I'm keen to host anyone who can get here, and happy to give help and advice to all those considering the trip.

Here's what I can offer you:
Space for up to two Surfers (one bed, one couch), in a unit in the Malay kampong, right on the water's edge. Beautiful sunsets every night and amazing coral gardens by day. I can show you a few of the local sights when I'm not working, and can lead trips into the caves for anyone interested.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Here's what I USED to have in this section of my profile, before I moved away:

Couch Surfers are few and far between on Christmas Island. Mostly, they're sent over by their work, so they have accommodation provided. I'm happy to catch up with any surfers and show them around the place. That said, I've had the privilege of actually hosting a few people in my unit and it's been awesome.

Often I'm only in a place for a short time, and I feel like I'd be freeloading if I only stayed with my host for one night. I like to get to know people and understand the place where they live.

However, I've recently had a whole bunch of incredible hosts, from Rio to Bangkok, and the friendships I forged was what really made my travel special.
