About Me

BACKGROUND:
I consider myself a New Mexican first and foremost, and I'll always bring the craziest parts of my hometown, Albuquerque, wherever I go. I love spending time outdoors with a group of my closest friends who climb, cliff jump, snowboard, ski, mountain bike, canyoneer, paddleboard, backpack, cold plunge, slackline, do gymnastics, play the hand pan, go to Burning Man, and bike everywhere. When I'm not doing one of those, I work as a professional New Mexican green chile roaster and can usually be found studying for a physics test that I am about to fail. I am finally at a point where I feel ready to leave the United States and start doing more intense things in life.

PHILOSOPHY:
I believe in a combination of ideological detachment, using as few resources as possible, perennialist philosophy, frugality, surrounding oneself with quality, philosophy of aesthetics, being carefree about little things and intensely invested in big things, introspection, and valuing considerateness above all else.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My roommate and top-three closest friend, Jack Dugan, was the number one Couchsurfing host in Albuquerque for a stretch of 2024. Along the way I met several fascinating people from around the world, often waking up to a new person in the house each week. I admire his dedication to showing the true, non-tourist Albuquerque experience to anyone willing to learn. I would like to do the same when I have a house of my own, but for now I want to be on the visiting side and experience what locals do in other places.

Short term goal: I have never left the United States and want to visit Jamaica in order to learn the culture from a non-tourist perspective. I want to stay with real Jamaicans and see how the country works on a daily basis.

Long term goal: To do this with several other countries, including India, Tanzania, and Hungary.

Music, Movies, and Books

- I have an intense and lifelong fascination with the band Popol Vuh
- Progressive rock with a song length of 15 minutes minimum
- Psychedelic rock, avant prog, 70s fusion, RIO, zeuhl, krautrock, death doom metal, funeral doom, black metal
- The Mars Volta, Acid Mothers Temple, Spectral Voice, Evoken, Frank Zappa, Soft Machine, Comus, Reverend Bizarre, OM, Embryo

- The films of Harmony Korine, Werner Herzog, and Robert Eggers
- Highly cliche, but my favorite film is The Lighthouse
- Whichever new cheesy A24 horror film my friends make me watch

- Herman Hesse, Ayn Rand (not in a politically affiliated way), Cormac

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have not done much in life so far, but I want to start to change that and have experiences that are outside of the ordinary. One of the things I enjoy doing is going to intensely transformative underground metal and punk concerts in basements and seedy dive bars.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have an interest in learning how other people make choices and leave an impact on the world. I have become friends with an array of vastly different yet all fascinating people, many with conflicting, borderline insane, comical, and even bizarrely stable worldviews. I seek to gather pieces from the lives of as many people as I can in order to form my own perspective. I especially am drawn towards people who seem to cause great change in their surroundings.

What I Can Share with Hosts

- (Hopefully) interesting conversation in the realms of music, linguistics, literature, philosophy, and unpopular opinions
- A wealth of passion for New Mexico and the outdoors
- A willingness to join anything and do most things
- An intense drive to do more and never flake
