About Me

CURRENT MISSION

finish my phd, meet new people, get out more, eat less sugar

ABOUT ME

Just came back to grad school after several years of traveling and teaching abroad, now I'm making a new home in Seattle and reading all.the.time. I never know what else to put in these kinds of blurbs...Let's have a drink and talk about it then. :)

PHILOSOPHY

"We are each a remarkable and unrepeatable event in the Universe. A life shaped around an idea that happens once and never again." --Theodore Roszak

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I actually have a place I like hosting and meeting interesting travelers from around the world, or simply going out and meeting people around town; at the moment I'm between places myself, though :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've met some couchsurfers in town and shown them around. Also slept on and hosted many friends on couches for years until I found couchsurfing, since then have hosted some travellers in my flat in Moscow and been hosted by great people in Spain, Netherlands, Canary Islands and more.

Interests

Traveling, reading (fiction/novels, history, progressive/left-wing political theory), interesting people, languages, films, beer, hiking, working out and food. I'm quite serious on that last one: I live to eat.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love to read so try me with whatever. Lately been reading Sheila Fitzpatrick's memoir about Moscow in the late 60s and Mario Vargas Llosa's Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter.

Movies: I like everything from fancy indy or arthouse films to terrible, cheesy horror.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Walking through Angkor Wat, hiking in Hawaii and Korea and Koh Chang. I grew up in the relatively flat Midwest, so beautiful mountains always amaze me.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach/like to learn languages, cooking new dishes. I also love to debate things like books/politics/history/life/cats v dogs over coffee or drinks--and I consider that a kind of sharing and learning, too.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Cambodia, Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Russian Federation, Scotland, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Hungary, Russian Federation, South Korea, Spain, United States
