About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To surf, to love, to live, and to make the world around me better, not necessarily in that order.

ABOUT ME

Originally an Ohioan but spent 5 years overseas in my 20s and about 10 years in CA. After undergrad I spent 5 years living overseas, volunteering, working and traveling, mostly in developing countries. I have a lot of experience in hobo-styling, bumming, and living like a king on next to nothing. I enjoy reading, playing guitar, going to the beach, camping, frisbee, hammocks, SCUBA, spearfishing, hiking, sailing and a whole lot more. I like drinking rum with coconut juice. My favorite hobbies are surfing (waves), healthy food (sometimes), and music.

PHILOSOPHY

Live simply
Love life
The world is my playground
Just Say Yes
Play it Cool
Do good and not evil
Safety Third! (Have fun first, don't get caught second, safety third!)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been involved in couchsurfing for a long time. I have hosted and surfed. I had many people surfing my couch from South Africa, NZ, Ireland, Germany, England, Australia, and all over the US. Some were official couchsurfers, but many were just travellers that I met and offered my abode. I have given many people info about Tonga because it is hard to find much real info online. I love having houseguests, and only had good experiences. I had great experiences surfing couches in Fiji, New Zealand, and Ireland. I hope to have more couchsurfers visit in the future. Some people I have met through couchsurfing have become some of my best friends in life.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had an Irish CS'er come to stay with me in Ha'apai, Tonga. He said he was planning on staying for 3 weeks. We got along brilliantly, and he ended up staying for 3 months, then we went to New Zealand and lived together for 4 months, then I went to Ireland and lived with his family for 3 months.

Lived without running water or electricity for two years on a tiny, remote island in Vava'u, Tonga.

If you are really poor and thirsty for booze, you can make some booze from just sugar, yeast, and water. You'll need 2- 20 Liter buckets, 250 grams of dry yeast, 6 Kilos of Raw Sugar. Start by dissolving 3 K's of sugar in Bucket A with 10 L room temp water. Next dissolve 250 g yeast in Bucket B in 8 L of hot water. Once both buckets are completely dissolved, VERY slowly pour the yeast water into the sugar water. If you do it too quickly or splash the reaction will happen too fast and overflow. Cover the bucket with a T-shirt to keep bugs out. On days 2 and 3, add a K of Sugar(dissolved in a little hot water). On Day 4 add 1/2 - 1 K sugar. After 10-14 days from the start of the process, you should have 20 L of 17% booze:) I doubt that anyone will do this, but if you do let me know. I did it many times, because I was poor and living with an Irishman and we couldn't afford the amount of booze we wanted. ***Important note*** This method is not for making a tasty beverage, or a healthy beverage. This is specifically for making the cheapest alcohol on earth (I think). You make it to catch a buzz, it works just like the store bought stuff, just doesn't taste good (but you get used to it). When I used to make this, it cost about $10 USD to make 20 Liters of booze that was stronger than wine!
