About Me

I'm an ambitious guy with big dreams. I really want to keep alive the idea of moving to a far away, foreign place with little more than a duffle bag. I was able to do that pretty well when I moved out to Oakland CA, a few years ago. Now I'm doing it similarly in Atlanta, GA .

I really want to live in many different places in my life. I aspire to be a global citizen.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to help people couchsurf. Although until I have an appropriate place of my own, more realistically I hope that couchsurfing can help me travel.

Interests

I easily get interested in things, but that's not a very good answer here.

I make movies. I'm trying to make a career out of it. It's difficult to make it an occupation, but every now and then I get struck with a cinematic vision that I want executed so badly, that it carries me through the struggles. I like how cinema can tell a story and how it can create a spectacle. I also like how being a movie maker can allow you to live many different lives vicariously through your stories.

My music library is very important to me. I love many different types of music. However electronic music is what got me interested in music in the first place. I love dynamic energy, whether it's visual, aural, or physical, so EDM was a good fit for me. With another friend who also had a passion for this music, I would throw small town raves, and eventually I got involved with bigger ones, too. It's been a long time since I've thrown a rave, but it's something I plan on continuing in the future.

While exploring dance through raves, I found swing dancing, which fulfilled my desire for a bit more structure while still keeping improvisational creative freedom. It's been a deep passion of mine to successfully combine the two, but in the meantime, I generally attend my raves and swing dances separately. I really like partner dancing, so I should probably try learning other forms, such as salsa and tango.

Beyond dancing, I really like all sorts of athletic activities. While I'm not huge into watching sports, I really like playing most of them; dodgeball, soccer, basketball, football... And on and off since I was a teenager I've skateboarded and practiced parkour/free running. I've always wanted to become an acrobat, and a few years ago, after seeing how long of a road it would be to make the movies I want to make, I decided on pursuing my movie making career over learning acrobatics. But that world is often on my mind.

So, if I had to sum up my interests, I'd say it's: Movies, Music, and Motion.

Music, Movies, and Books

For movies, while it may not be the scholar's choice, I tend to lean towards the pulpy, ultraviolent fodder for preadolescent boys, such as Kill Bill, Snowpiercer, Hardcore Henry, Lucky Number Slevin. However, if I'm going to a movie theater, I usually find myself going to the late night screenings at art houses for the weird, and/or the fiercely independent, such as American Astronaut, Blancanieves, The Invitation, I Am A Knife With Legs, Rubber. Or old screenings like Metropolis, Speedracer, El Topo, Muholland Drive.

Oh, speaking of Lynch, let's talk TV! I'm talking about Twin Peaks, Party Down, Bojack Horseman, Rick and Morty, Steven Universe, Breaking Bad + Better Call Saul, Atlanta, let's even sprinkle some Malcolm in the Middle and Arrested Development in there! TV is so good these days.

For music, probably my favorite genres are electronic, dance, and punk, and if it's got all 3, I'm gonna love it. A few artists that I pretty much love their entire discography include Justice, Does It Offend You Yeah?, and Soulwax.

To be honest, I don't read many books. A few that really stand out from my childhood are the Bunnicula and the 2001: A Space Odyssey series. I also really like me some Arthur Miller, specifically Death of a Salesman and The Crucible, but I suppose those are more meant to be seen than read. I've been getting more into comics lately, particularly Gwenpool. I learned about that series because I really like the writer's work on a webcomic called Dr. McNinja. I actually read a decent amount of webcomics, including SMBC, Back, Gunshow, XKCD, Oglaf. I'm currently digging The Property of Hate. I've been meaning to check out Homestuck, but it's kinda daunting how long it is.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once explored a nearly deserted Manhattan during a blizzard really late into the night.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach some swing dance and A/V skills. I would probably love to make a movie/story with you.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would be so grateful to have a host. I'm not sure what I can provide, other than being the a good guest, but if there were something that a host thinks I could help them with, I would hope that they ask me.

Countries I’ve Visited

Mexico, Peru
