About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Successfully navigate my senior year of my undergrad.

ABOUT ME

I currently study psychology at Purdue University Calumet. I graduated in 07, went to three different community colleges in three semesters, and then dropped out for a year and a half to work full time and live on my own and party. I grew tired of that, had a lot of stupid shit happen to me, and have since re-enrolled in school where I'm doing my best to take it super seriously. Grad school is the ultimate goal at this point, and I will be starting that process this summer (which is exciting and terrifying). Either way, everything is awesome.

I really like movies and listening to people talk about them. TV has become harder and harder to hate every year. I like having fun sometimes. I'm nearsighted. I get anxious if I stay in the same place for too long. I'm militantly unaware of my surroundings and habitually agreeable. The two things I strive most to not be are annoying and hard to joke around with.

PHILOSOPHY

Work hard and be kind.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

If anyone just needs a quick run down of things to do in the area or would want to grab a beverage, I could maybe set aside an hour or two of time for them, depending on my workload. When school is in session, I typically spend about eight hours a day on campus (a 40 minute commute away) so it's hard for me to do things Monday-Thursday.

How I would like to participate instead is by giving feedback on the people that are so kind as to offer up their couches to travelers. Every few months or so, I need to spend sometime outside of northwest Indiana.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far I have only stayed with one host when he lived in Lincoln, Nebraska. It was a wonderful experience that I have was lucky enough to revisit a couple summers ago. He is someone that I still keep in touch with, even if it's infrequent, and I hope to be able to stay with him again sometime soon!

Interests

Things I already like:
Film, music, hiking, biking, travel, camping, board games (particularly of the Euro variety), hanging out, lists, television, cats, reading, pizza, absurdism, bad dancing, comedy, anti-comedy, video games.

Things I used to do or have tried and would like to revisit:
Making shirts, writing sketches, learn an instrument, drawing, competently ride a skateboard, hacky sack, basketball, establishing an advice booth, pseudo urban exploration (walking around abandoned buildings and sometimes playing in them).

Things I've never participated in and would like to try:
Sewing, racquetball, frisbee golf, canoeing/kayaking, fishing.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies:
http://www.criticker.com/profile/bearjazz
I don't watch nearly as much as I would like. Wet Hot American Summer, Week End, Come and See, Lost in Translation, Brand Upon the Brain!, Blue Velvet, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Gummo.

Music:
http://www.last.fm/user/bearjazz
Pretty much anything, and I really mean that. Mostly noise rock, punk, electronic-based indie, 80s synthpop, and top 40 pop songs that glorify alcoholism.

Books:
I like books. I wish I read more of them.
Lolita, The Stranger, Ham on Rye, Born Standing Up, Dishwasher, Breakfast of Champions.
Comics:
Scott Pilgrim, Preacher, Y: The Last Man, The Walking Dead, Understanding Comics, Jeffrey Brown, Chester Brown, Nate Powell.

Television:
The Simpsons, Parks and Recreation, Curb Your Enthusiasm, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Futurama, The Venture Bros., Breaking Bad, Childrens Hospital, Firefly, Twin Peaks, The State.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Everything my cat does is incredible.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn whatever you want to teach me! And vice versa. I've been told on a number of occasions that my pizzas are "the best they've had in years." If quoting The Simpsons was a job, I would be able to retire early.
