About Me

Hi everyone! My name is Beatriz and I'm a 22-year-old, born and raised in the south of Portugal.

As I spent my entire childhood and adolescence in a small little city, I've always aspired something bigger and better than that, mostly because I was so unable to fit in where I was. When I turned18 I moved to Lisbon, took a degree in Communication Sciences and discover my work path - Marketing. I seriously love Marketing and all concepts related to it and, as I couldn't imagine myself doing anything else, I started a Master's in Marketing Intelligence (that it's still in the process of being concluded as I'm currently working on my thesis).

I've always been a very insecure girl, something that didn't help me AT ALL during the teenage years, but if that gave me one thing was the possibility of developing a refined sense of humour, I believe, something that very well characterizes me (just ask my friends, I hope they'll say the same)... Apart from that, I do believe my flaws are somehow mixed with my qualities: I'm an organization freak with it comes to traveling and working, something that can be very hard to deal with but also very useful; I'm very stubborn, which is annoying but effective when I need something done; I'm a very stressful human being, which actually helps my productivity and I'm very fond of being alone and having my own space, a great thing as I know how to live in perfect harmony with myself, but also a bad aspect when it comes to socializing and be more open to people.

On an everyday basis, I believe I'm an actually an easy person to hang with (my family is the one suffering the most with the flaws mentioned above), as I'm very open to almost everything, I'm that friend that rarely says no and I never take anything seriously. However, I do need to say that I have a very strong mind when I talk to homophobic people and male chauvinists since I most definitely don't need those types of people in my life and I do not joke around when those topics come to the table.

Overall, I'm just a regular girl that still knows how to sing all Disney songs and loves to travel and to meet contrasting cultures and places. Maybe I should have just written that....

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Despite loving my country very much, I always felt that I wanted to live somewhere else.

When I was doing my bachelor's degree I joined the Erasmus program and lived 6 months in Barcelona - the greatest experience (and city) in my entire life. That time gave me the confirmation I needed that I was destined to see more and know more, so I decided to take my Master's internship abroad, ending up in this small cute place called High Wycombe. Being a very small city and without much to offer, I decided from the beginning I would enjoy these 4 months (I started early September and I'm finishing in the end of December) to get to know all the surroundings. Since I work all week days and I also have my thesis, weekends are really my only options and I feel like I need to take the most out of them.

That's when I discovered couchsurfing (as I wasn't aware the site existed) and realized how cool it was.
Since I do all my travelling here alone (I came alone to the internship and I only know like 2 people here), signing up in the website will allow me to fulfill two essential things: a sleeping place + an opportunity to socialize. I love travelling alone, I can do my own thing, go to the places I want to go without any restrictions, but I also like to speak with people, see what the locals have to say, know their great tips, share a cup of hot choc while I'm debating experiences and ideas with someone else before going to bed.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a HUGE Harry Potter geek, so i guess that's a nice way to start answering about books & movies. Besides HP (obviously), i guess i can say...

Books - Love Pride & Prejudice and Little Women, timeless classics, and I'm pretty much obsessed with narratives that revolve around Time Travelling & Reincarnation, I just get deeply fascinated when i read about these topics and I've covered dozens of books about them (if you know some good ones, pls let me know!!)

Movies - very hard answer, as I'm a cinema freak - no greater feeling than going to a cinema see a movie in a big screen. I really have a very broad taste.

TV Shows - I had to include this one since I watch way to many TV Shows and this is a very relevant category to me. My all-time favorites ever are FRIENDS & Gilmore Girls, but I'm also a huge fan of Mad Men, HIMYM, Narcos, This is Us, Jane the Virgin, Gossip Girl (sorry not sorry) and good old Sex & The City

Music - I know by heart too many pop songs, but my favorite genre is R&B (not a specific singer, just my favorite thing to hear and relax). I'm also a huge fan of Kendrick Lamar, Drake, J Cole, Chance the Rapper & Childish Gambino and my favorite band is The 1975

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you have anything you need to know about Portugal, I'm your girl. I always love to talk about my country and all things related! I have also travelled quite a lot inside Europe so I LOVE to debate about cultural things, cities, beautiful landscapes... I can assure you you'll receive a great amount of enthusiasm from me if we speak about that! If you need some music, tv shows, cinema and book recommendations I sure can give you everything I know, as I have one for every taste!

But in all seriousness, I'll tell you that I can share great stories, new perspectives to lead debate, a good laugh with you, when it comes to being a 'guest', I can "share" with your house my quietness, my peacefulness, my organizational talents and even my dishes if you want (not a wonderful cook, but i can a little bit more than the basics!).
