About Me

CURRENT MISSION

While taking a squeegee to a wet floor one day, I asked myself 'What am I doing here?'. I then decided to design a long voyage inspired by this question and the Dave Eggers novel "You Shall Know our Velocity" to take on grand philanthropic adventures.

ABOUT ME

I guess I decided it was time to travel about three years ago. I flipped my car several times until it looked like Big Foot (the monster truck) had at it, and a few weeks later, my puppy dog died eating a toxic bagel out of the compost pile. At or around this time, I decided to quit my job as a brewer and was told something to the tune of "You can't quit, you're fired!". Therefore, having nothing left, but time, money, and wanderlust, I've decided to set myself loose upon this earth in hopes of earning for myself the right to take up my share of space and oxygen, and find a place to call home. I also have an intense phobia of sharks. All true.

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy, I recently discovered, can be summed up by a Kenny Loggins song. I believe it's called "The Gambler". "You gotta know when to fold 'em," says Kenny. Now while the only other Loggins I listen to is the opening theme from "Top Gun", I find that there is at least something to gain from listening to people, all people. If it sounds cliched, it's probably because it's usually true.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I will test couches and rate them honestly and accordingly. Someday, when I have a couch, I hope somebody will do the same for me.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Rookie.

Interests

Political. Enjoy reading and a tasty beer in a dark and quiet bar (generally not at the same time). I also enjoy a tasty beer in a fairly loud bar. Fairly active, I like hiking. I tried to get into rock climbing, but decided that I probably wasn't enjoying it if I was swearing that much.

Music, Movies, and Books

Big fan of "Scrubs". Favorite author: Dave Eggers. I've probably claimed at least once per book that he has "changed my life". That's actually kind of hard to admit. Enjoy most indie rock, and hold a special place in my heart for motown and especially, The Four Tops. Also, I'm secure enough to say that I think Matt Damon is one of the great actors of our generation, and Leo is doing really great roles. I probably wouldn't fight over those claims, though.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've had the honor to work with a group of fantastic people to build a school in the Nepali Himalayas. Check it out www.helambuproject.org.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like to share good times and good conversation about anything from politics, music, and books to why barbeque is America's greatest contribution to the globe.
