About Me
Heya :)
I'm Bec.
I grew up on a farm in the countryside of Victoria, Australia (close to Melbourne). I've been traveling for the last couple of years, mostly living in Thailand, recently branching out into Nepal and India. I've been trying to utilize my time abroad exploring my relationship with myself, the world, and other humans. Recently this attempt at deeper connection has involved the exploration of a musical side to myself that I previously never knew existed.
I just landed back on Australian soil and keen to make some connections :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
When travelling, I'm always super interested to stay in non-touristy areas, get to know locals and really explore the culture. I feel that travel isn't true travel until I've done this. It feels like cheating if I always stay with tourists, speak with tourists and do what tourists do.
Of course it's also nice to save a bit of accommodation money, to create the opportunity to travel for longer.
And I'd love to repay the favour to travelers in need in Melbourne, whenever I settle into a place again, to continue the intercultural learning experience.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like most music styles, but I'm not so good at reciting genres because, let's face it, there are way too many genres... why do we gotta put everything into boxes yo? Here's a random mixture of some artists I enjoy the sounds of: Tool, Hozier, Xavier Rudd, Fat Freddy's Drop, The Doors, Buena Vista Social Club, Gramatik, Pearl Jam, Ichi, Jose Gonzales, Nirvana, Franciscus Henry, Opiuo, The Beatles. Oh how I could continue! :)
I'm one of those people who, in a conversation about movies, always gets the response "WHAT!?, you haven't seen *insert famous movie title here*". I'm working on it!! But so far I like picturesque and thought-provoking movies like Samsara and Baraka, quirky stuff like those by Wes Andersen (though I'm just beginning to explore), and many more that I can't think of right now.
At the moment I'm into self-inquiry, non-dualism, yoga sutras, the path to enlightenment, religion... so my current book list looks like that.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I spent 5 months living in Pai, northern Thailand, playing open mic and developing my confidence in music when I had previously never played live. The experience of living in this beautiful place was life-changing, not just due to the musical growth but thanks largely to the AMAZING souls who pass through and live in the town itself.
Teach, Learn, Share
I could teach very basic guitar and ukulele, and also exercise technique (squats, pushups, all the things), potentially meditation techniques and basic advaita wisdom, depending on the context.
I'd love to learn more guitar and uke, singing, greater depths and others' ideas of spirituality, religion, cooking, permaculturey stuff.
