About Me

I’m a 29 year old Australian, working as an environmental scientist. I’ve lived in Western Australia my whole life so far. I’m really looking forward to my 2 month adventure through Europe in 2015. I’ve done a few weeks of overseas travel with my best friend, and now I’m planning an independent holiday.

I try to make the most of my free time on weekends and between long work days by keeping active and attempting to learn new things like surfing, slalom rollerblading, longboarding, languages etc. I’m pretty terrible at all of these things but it’s all good fun, which I think is what life is about! We’ve got one life and I intend to spend it with a grin on my face.

I spend a lot of time outdoors for work, especially the Pilbara region of Western Australia. I’ve been lucky seen a lot of my own backyard, now its time to explore yours! I’m excited to get out there see some of the amazing things this world has to offer and to meet new friends.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to give couchsurfing a try because I love meeting new people of all ages and learning all about culture, folklore and history. It just sounds like a really good way to see into the heart of a place and to connect with the local people, have a good laugh, share some stories and make some memories.

“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”
– J.R.R. Tolkien

I love this quote from Tolkien. You will see below that I am a bookworm.

Interests

I’m an active outdoors person so I love anything involving nature and sports. I’ve got lots of interests and hobbies such as:
-Learning to surf waves (and couches)
-Rollerblading
-Bushwalking/hiking/botany
-Anything related to the beach and swimming
-Having fun with friends.
-Watching Australian Rules Football
-Generally being active
-Listening and watching live music
-Reading
-Cooking

I’m always keen to try new activities and local food and am keen to explore roads less travelled.

Music, Movies, and Books

I’m a music lover and I’m afraid my lists would be too long, so I would sum it up by saying I love almost everything (spanning multiple generations). Blues n roots, soul, funk, reggae, hip hop, old school Rock n Roll, jazz, folk etc etc! I’m also pretty corny and am liable to unashamedly dance to the Macarena given the opportunity.

I’m a total bookworm and I’ll read almost anything but have a particular preference for historical fiction and fantasy. A few of my favourite authors are Juliet Marillier, Terry Pratchett, Bill Bryson, Neil Gaiman, Glenda Larke

With movies I like comedy, adventure, animated and heartwarming types of movies. My most favourite movies are Chocolat and Love Actually.
Favourite TV Shows: Black Books, Greenwing, True Blood, Game of Thrones, Vikings.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of my most memorable overseas travel experiences so far has been seeing Blue Cave off Island Vis in Croatia. We took a little boat into a sea cave and waited for the sun to reach the right angle. It lights up the water an electric blue colour at certain times of the day. It was the most incredible experience.
The world is a beautiful place. Closer to home, on a hot day at work in Millstream National Park, a cooling dip at Red Dog Gorge makes every day amazing.
