À propos de moi
CURRENT MISSION
World Traveler, Book Lover, Student of History, Serial Adventurer
ABOUT ME
I am an experienced traveler, having visited 17 countries. My boyfriend, Joe, however, is a retired US Marine and has chalked up over 30! We try to hit the gym several days a week and are always willing to try new things. I love to read, usually a book a week, and do needlework. He loves old Japanese samurai movies and getting dirty with yard work or working on our houses. We both love history; I still teach it - (7th Graders - 13 yrs. old)
PHILOSOPHY
Religion: There is a God. I'm not Him. He has a plan but I usually don't like it.
Politics: Thomas Jefferson - "That government which governs least is best."
People: 99.9% of them are kind and friendly. The other .1% are total assholes.
Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I want to see the world, and I'm on a fixed budget. I.E. I must welcome others into my home and hope there are strangers, potential friends, who will do the same.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We usually stay in cheap hotels or hostels, but we've also slept on airport floors, and camped, and always manage to make new friends when we travel. We always said "one day" we'd try couchsurfing. Now's the time!
We have hosted three times; it all went well!
Summer of 2014 we surfed with 'Zoe' in Edinburgh, Scotland. She was a perfect gem and very kind. Having a native's knowledge of basics like bus schedule, hours of operation of sites, even just pointing us out to the nearby grocery was SUPER helpful!
A few months ago we had Carlotta from France. A superb guest! We all had a great time and learned a lot from each other.
Centres d'intérêt
We both like travel and history and enjoy discussing current events. He likes to read, I LOVE to read. We both like movies, but not always the same kind. We enjoy discussing politics, but don't want to fight with anyone. Cultures and religions are always interesting, regardless of whose they are.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue
Just one? Can't do it. But here's a few: We just got back from Iceland where we drove the Ring Road in a miniscule "camper." We both completed Tough Mudder - an 11 mile, 25 obstacle endurance race in 2011. Petted tigers and rode Elephants in Thailand. Crawled through WWI trenches in Belgium and Viet Cong tunnels in Vietnam. And Joe ran in the original Olympic stadium in Greece.
Enseignez, apprenez, partagez
Make a plan, but make it flexible. Adapt, improvise and overcome.
Make your first answer "Yes." You only go around once on this big blue marble.
Take the train in Vietnam, but don't expect much. Enjoy the view.
Follow the crowd in Athens, you'll end up on a rooftop bar at midnight.
If you have a toothbrush and clean underwear, you're good to go. Buy the rest when you arrive, maybe discover you don't really need that item...
Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes
It's hard to welcome people into your home when you don't really know them and can feel quite awkward at first. But it will probably work out well. And if it doesn't, they're leaving soon. Deal with it and chalk it up as a learning experience.
