About Me

I have a love affair with other cultures and travelling to experience them. In fact, I decided to do my degree in Anthropology so I can do just that all the time. I'm now starting my PhD in Medical Anthropology, and it's a wonderful feeling being able to turn something you love into a career.
I study reproductive health with indigenous women in the Peruvian Andes, and have spent time living in the Ecuadorian & Bolivian Andes too..

I spend a lot of time on my studies, but when I'm not absorbed in that I love the theatre (fringe, not big-musicals so much), sitting with a pint or two and chatting, and long city walks (I love walking tours I can't deny it).

I've travelled a fair bit for research purposes, and have volunteered in a few places also on social projects, teaching and with health centres. The most exciting projects for me was working with amputees in a prosthetics clinic in La Paz, such great work they're trying to do (not all volunteer trips are like that sadly, I have some bad experiences too).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm here for that number 1 reason- to make friends all over the world!
I think that it's a wonderful global community of like-minded people and I 100% support the ethos of cultural exchange.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well I think most people are listing their great travel experiences here, but the most amazing thing I've done was to be maid of honour at my sisters wedding. Sharing those moments with family for me was better than any of the world wonders I've seen :-)

Teach, Learn, Share

My most general offering is helping with English practice. For any Spanish speakers I can translate as well, but in general I'm patient with language learning. I learn French & Quechua myself so I know the process and the value of practice :-)

I'm more than happy to discuss anthropology, culture, travel, books, art, theatre...whatever is our common interest. Or if we have none, I'm happy to find some new ones!

What I Can Share with Hosts

For hosts I believe that sharing and being helpful is very important- CS is about meeting people and making new friends for me. So...I will bring the wine :-)
I think that reading and considering someone's profile is important, so hopefully I can bring some good conversation and have thought about what you've said about yourself :-)
