About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To find my true calling, of course.
ABOUT ME
I'm Becca. I just graduated Uni and, as soon as the leash snapped, decided to move across the world to Taiwan. Now that my time in the Isla Formosa is coming to an end, I want to see as much of SE Asia as possible. Or anywhere. I'm not picky.
My stateside friends would say "Becca? What country is she in now- Thailand? I think it's Thailand. Yea, she's pretty cool. Don't engage her in political discussion unless you have several hours to burn."
My students would say "My teacher is SO CRAZY."
PHILOSOPHY
Fortune favors those with a terrible sense of direction.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
So far I will just be benefiting from veteran couch surfers, but when I come back and get my apartment I will have a couch.
Interests
All things are politics and I love having deep, meaningful conversations with people from different schools of thought. The open water has always attracted me, and I plan on getting re-certified in SCUBA when I'm back in the states. I read everything I can and find language fascinating- I always try to pick up a little in earnest whenever I travel. I pass the time by reading, doing yoga, walking aimlessly, planning my next big escape. I'm *interested" in blogging, but I suck at it. I prefer pen on paper.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
1. Lying outside an open-air cabana in the middle of the Costa Rican jungle late at night. My friend and I sipping beer after a long workday, staring at the moon and stars, responding to the bird calls in the trees. One of the most peaceful moments of my life.
2. After hundreds of km on a scooter, we were almost at our destination on the east coast of Taiwan. We were absolutely exhausted, and the day's span of conditions- heat, cold, rain, wind, and fog, through the mountains- weathered our skin to leather. It was already nighttime, but you could see the faint outline of the massive mountains halting at the coast. There were so many stars! We whipped through the switchbacks down the mountain at semi-irresponsible speeds. The monkeys in the trees were shouting warnings in our direction. We shot through gushing, old marble tunnels and around precarious rockfalls. It was amazing.
3. One for back home. Being unable to sleep at my grandparent's house, at the end of Long Island's south fork. Tip-toeing through a quiet house and onto the weathered old patio. Hugging my sweater close against the morning chill. The sun is almost up, and the grey herons look like dinosaurs flying over the bay. I cut my feet walking over the rocky beach, and push out the little canoe. I take it out onto the smooth, glassy water, dispersing blue claw crabs on the muddy, holed shore. Several hundred little fish stick together my my boat. The buzz of mosquitos and the drip of water from my ore is the only thing I can hear. Stayed in the middle of the inlet, just to drift. A rare moment when I felt no need to think.
