ABOUT ME
About me, let's see. I am easy going, quirky and quite clumsy. I enjoy just walking around and exploring a new city before delving into the sights. I am a public transportation wiz! They call me the navigator and I am always assigned the task of directing the group. I am the go to person regarding travel advise and itineraries in my family. I love nothing days where all I do is watch movies. I am with the person I love most in the world by my side to share my life and travels with. I am happiest on the road.
I have been traveling out of the country since I was 12, before which I hadn't even been out of the state of Florida even more, not even north of Orlando. My first and second trip out of the country and state for that matter was to Cuba. Despite the poverty and despair in some areas, it was amazing. It was like travelling back in time to the 1950's. I was able to learn and see a lot of history from my family who still lives there. I think this was the point in my life where I realized I was dead set on travelling. Of course, I was still too young, but later at 16 I proclaimed I would see every inch of the world before I died. Even though I was told that was impossible (which I'll admit every inch is impossible), I knew I wouldn't be happy without travelling. In the next few teen years, I went on a couple of cruises with the family but with my over protective mother, it was a very sheltered experience. I didn't get to truly experience the world until 2008. The year started with a class trip to China which was amazing. The Great Wall is something everyone should experience once in their lives. I went with my best friend whom I had planned an extended Euro-Trip with for later in the summer. It turns out she hated being outside of her comfort zone. She wouldn't leave the hotel for any activities that weren't part of the class trip and was just terrible the whole time. It was then that I realized, either I would have to find someone to replace her or I would have to do it alone. On an off Tuesday in May, I found a great deal on airfare leaving jut 2 days later to Paris and I booked it. It was the most fearful yet exhilarating moment in my life. In just two days I would be out in the world alone for 5 weeks. I let everyone know the next day, bought a backpack and was gone that Thursday. The experience was life changing and I would be a very different person were it not for that trip. I met people along the way that I have traveled with again and hope to continue to do so. The hosteling experience made the trip easy as I never felt truly alone. No one at home understood and thought I was crazy for staying at hostels especially travelling alone. It was on the off chance that I spoke with another traveler that they understood. Almost like it's own club. 2008 was the gateway to a lifelong love affair with travelling.
