About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Connecting people and encouraging a superorganismal sense of stewardship for the planet.

ABOUT ME

I like [love] the ocean - free diving, surfing, scuba.
I like to build - boats, camper vans, fancy bike trailers (Santa BarbaraBikeTrailers.com), furniture, gadgets.
I like connecting with people - what makes us who we are? Who "are" we? This is a fun topic with the Couch-surfer community. Our global mindset creates a growth-oriented personality that likes both to share and to learn.

PHILOSOPHY

Momento mori, temptus fugit.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am happy to host. We started WorldViz in the house that I ended up living in after we moved into a real office (www.worldviz.com). The house had always been an international student hub for travel. I took over the house, found this site, started hosting people, and I look forward to staying involved.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've stayed with many kinds of people while traveling on the cheap and it's been incredible. It's all been positive.

Interests

Surfing, cycling, climbing, sailing, scuba, freediving, backpacking, exploring Santa Barbara oceans in my little red boat, adventuring/exploring, van-life exploration of the US, member of Search and Rescue in Santa Barbara County (have a medic cert, so I can assist with medical emergencies), MUSIC!, amateur musician (tenor sax, and total beginner on cello).

Music, Movies, and Books

My grandmother gave me a book, Age of Spiritual Machines - by Ray Kurzweil. It's probably not what it sounds like. It put me on the path of engineering neural-prosthetics, helping people hear/see/move better, which led me to helping with the startup of this Virtual Reality company, WorldViz(.com). Changed my life:)

Music: I live and breath music. Brahms, Wagner, Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins, Underworld, DeadMou5, Foo Fighters, Nils Frahm, so many more than it makes sense to list. Electronic, classical, blue-grass, trad-jazz. In nearly eveey genre, I appreciate strong musicianship and thoughtful attention to tone, timing, timbre, the message if spoken, and the intentional feelings these qualities evoke.

Moviessss? Yes. Planet Earth (BBC), Fifth Element, Fight Club, Life is Beautiful, The Grand B_____ Hotel (do you know it?;). I find inspiration in storylines that demonstrate grit, self-actualization, inalienable truths, abandoning the ego, silliness, tragedies from any area, and I'm a sucker for the classically romantic Boy-Meets-Girl stories regardless of the era or century or film genre in which the story unfolds😊

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Teach, Learn, Share

I like how much I can learn from even a short couchsurfing stay. So I'm open to anything a host or guest would like to share some experience. Lately, my primary interest is Finnish culture and sauna:) (I recently built one at my house)

I can teach the "longevity" principles in Peter Attias's book, Outlive. (exercise principles, nutrition basics, some preventative maintenance for cardiac issues, and can only recommend screening for cancer (not much we can do there)).
I can teach massage - I grew up doing it.
I can help people reframe their self perception and align with their goals, mostly in the exercise and business context.
I can build and fix things. I've done this for a few hosts😄

What I Can Share with Hosts

We can chat about any of the above "Teach/Learn/Share" ideas and activities.
