About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I wished to live deliberately and see if I could not learn what life had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life: living is so dear. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow.

PHILOSOPHY

Music, Movies, and Books

Music--too much to list, but I've gotta say that the Squirrel Nut Zippers remain my favorite. Others that come to mind: Radiohead, Pedro the Lion, Pavement, Dave Brubeck, Coleman Hawkins, Portishead, Andrew Bird, Duke Ellington, Gershwin, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper...

Books-- undisputed favorite is "A Severe Mercy" by Sheldon Vanauken. I also enjoy sociology books that look at the way we live, work, spend, consume, etc and those impacts on the environment, our happiness, and others. (Best example is "Affluenza")
Travel books are great too-- "Blue Highways", Bill Bryson or Tim Cahill, Kerouac, Steinbeck, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Did a solo bicycle trip from Virginia to Alaska and met innumerable interesting and generous people. Lived in Nepal for a year and did a month of trekking in the Khumbu. Did an Ironman triathlon.
