About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to make the zsa zsa zsu last!

ABOUT ME

This virtual box seems rather small now, when I need to place the Me from the Real World in here! At the given time I'm about to finish my first year of MA in Middle Eastern studies in Lund, Sweden. For almost ten years I have spent my summers traveling and experiencing different cultures with a folk dance group, yet now I cannot stop enjoying the pleasure of traveling with considerably smaller groups of friends or by myself. Hopefully, the one reading this will meet me on one's trip (or during mine!) and will get one's own chance of filling the box of "all about Giedre" from his/her own perspective!

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy at the moment seems to be not to have any personal philosophy.
Merely seizing the day.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

By sending positive energy towards you! :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

There have been some unofficial CS experiences during my travels and those brought me the idea of trying this initiative officially. I am still fresh in here as I wasn't taking good care of my account for the first 2 years, but I'm open to all of the experiences this way of traveling might bring! So far, so good.

Interests

* Traveling to new places and coming back to already visited ones
* Spending time in flea markets and old book shops
* Sending and receiving postcards and letters
* Collecting the stuff 'I might need one day'
* Learning something others don't know
* Admiring the tunes of different languages, especially the consonance of Arabic, Turkish and Persian

Music, Movies, and Books

The whole year I was stuck on 'Twin Peaks'. 'Marina Abramovic: The Artist Is Present' might be the last inspiring movie I've seen.
Currently (or rather for a long while now) listening to Beirut, Mashrou' Leila, Arcade Fire, Cocorosie, Hindi Zahra, Mumford and Sons, Josh Ritter.
Recently read Orhan Pamuk's 'Snow', translated into Lithuanian. Sadly - or luckily - articles on the various subjects of my studies currently are my 'evening readings'.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I can't think of only ONE thing so far. Instead, many moments come to my mind: sleeping on the slope of a 2hrs hike mountain in Portugal and overlooking the lights of the city, listening to an angel-voiced tourist in an accidentally entered Venetian church, wandering through my quiet and frosty hometown one snowy winter night, singing Bohemian Rhapsody in a choir with live orchestra.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could prepare Lithuanian soup Saltibarsciai for you anytime as I'm in love with it! ;)
Generally, I think there's no big need to name the things I know/would like to learn, 'cause I'm interested in pretty much everything a person wants to teach - be it language, movies/books/music, traditional cuisine, views or experiences. And I have a feeling that my hosts would feel the same way too.
