About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Meet awesome people who are passionate about life!

ABOUT ME

I'm an intense, goofy kind of guy. I love to meet new people, especially people that I have little in common with. I'm very passionate about life and living and I want to do everything and then do it again on hard mode. I'm a double major in math and physics. Despite what horrid stereotypes are associated with such people, I'm a reasonably well adjusted and outgoing person! I'm interested in absolutely everything under the sun and it was almost impossible to pick something. I actually wanted to be an artist or writer of some kind for most of my life.

I work like a dog during the week and then try my best to party all weekend. If I had to describe myself as a linear combination of stereotypes then I'd be equal parts nerd, hippie, drunken buffoon, and metalhead.

I've recently started getting involved with the burner community around Atlanta. If you haven't heard of Burning Man, burners are the subculture associated with it. Burning Man is an enormous hippie party in the desert. I haven't actually been, but I've been to a regional burn (smaller scale version of it) called Alchemy and will be going to another one soon. It was the most transformative experience of my life and myself and all my friends that went still talk about it months later. At Alchemy I began to learn my favorite hobby, spinning poi, which is just swinging weighted balls on chains around your body (often on fire!).

PHILOSOPHY

I live life to enjoy it! I just dig it a lot. I take nothing seriously (except studying I suppose) and am open about everything. I keep no secrets. I say precisely what is on my mind without any games. A lot of people who do that can come across as assholes, but it is a very rare occasion for me to think of anything negative so I get to avoid that. My optimism also knows no bounds.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just found out about this so I do not know yet! I have a friend who has done it and it sounded interesting and a great opportunity to meet new people, so here I am!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None through the CS website specifically yet! But I let friends and friends of friends crash on my couches all the time.

Interests

If there is something that I am not interested in then I'd be interested in it solely for the fact that it would seem bizarre to me that I found something I was not interested in.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like literally all music, from pretentious classical music to the thuggest gangsta rap. I think I've become literally unable to like any music. My attitude towards it is that if someone else out there likes it, anybody, then why the hell would I let them have all the fun! I want to enjoy it too! I do have preferred music, of course - I listen primarily to death metal, viking/folk metal, classic metal, classic rock, and then recently I've started listening to a lot of techno.

It's hard for me to watch most movies more than once so I don't have many favorite movies. The ones I do watch over and over again, though, are comedies. Animal House is my #1 favorite movie, and then Super Troopers, Harold and Kumar, and Wizard People, Dear Reader. I love anything that is intellectually bankrupt, perhaps to drag me back down from the head-in-the-clouds disconnected-from-reality aspect of most mathematics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing couple hours of my life was at Alchemy. I was on a large moving pirate ship (moving on the ground that is). It had flamethrowers attached to it and was covered in crazy lights and people dressed up as pirates while awesome music was pumping through the evening air. We careened around the camps of hundreds of people picking people up here and dropped people off there - whoever wanted to hop on was welcome! It sounds like yet another crazy party, and it certainly was, but it also made me realize how much goodness and friendliness humanity is capable of.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can tell you all about quantum mechanics and relativity and all that crazy stuff (preferably when drunk)! I can also teach you lots of neat math that doesn't involve more knowledge than high school algebra.
