Yo nomads!

I'm 19 and I'm Aussie. I write this (update this) (it's been too long) from a couch in a hostel in Albania.
I've been on the road for 2 years now since January '16. After finishing high-school back in Adelaide I decided I wasn't ready to tackle university just yet, so I booked a few flights and got on my way on what was originally going to be a 10 month gap year of travelling.
Fast forward to now and it's been 20 months and still no ideas on how much longer I'll be away for!

I grew up in Lombok, Indonesia for the first 12 years of my life, and then moved to South Aus where I finished school. Being a kid of two cultures has certainly influenced my desires to travel - just knowing that there is another culture out there completely different to the western one makes me curious to experience them all.

I am a creative guy. I studied visual arts and design all the way through high-school. Maybe I'll take a course in the field when I finally go to uni, but thats Ben's problem in 6 months time. Or next year Ben's problem. The only problem I face now is where to next!
I enjoy photography as well, but my passion is travel, seeing this freaking awesome world we live in and jumping into all those dreamy travel photos I see on Insty and Facey. I love meeting the locals and learning about the history of places I visit, as well as meeting other travellers (although there are too many aussies abroad :D) and sharing the city or country with them.

So far my travel path has looked like this:
Indonesia > USA > Iceland > Netherlands (working in Amsterdam for a year) > Portugal > Spain > Belgium > France > Turkey > Greece > Macedonia > Albania > Montenegro > Croatia > Hungary > Serbia > Bulgaria > UAE > Lebanon
I've travelled to a lot more countries but until I see more than one or two towns I can't add them to the list haha.

While I'm in Europe I want to hitchhike the Balkans and up through East Europe and finish off travelling western Europe and the UK before heading into the middle east for something completely different.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet awesome people! Travelling isn't just about the places you go and the Instagram pics you take, but I think the main way of learning and experiencing a place is through the people you meet. Locals and other travellers. You get so much more out of a place by talking and sharing your experiences with each other, and I think it's one of the most important things about travelling - being open to meet unusual, crazy, similar or different minded people! This site is such a good opportunity for that, especially if your travelling solo and on a tight budget.
