About Me

Alright, first thing's first. I am clean and I can cook. I can be quiet when appropriate and loud when necessary. At school I was told that 'Ben needs to spend less of his time talking to the other students, and day dreaming and apply himself." I guess I began to apply myself, but I still like to daydream. I produce theatre at RMIT University in Melbourne to pay the bills. I'm a very lazy vegetarian and I don't smoke cigarettes. I am music obsessed, playing guitar and piano. I started learning the Sitar in India, and bought one and shipped it home. I love music and half my life is putting Spotify playlists together. I’m always looking to find and share new music with others. A film buff to the bone, I'll curl up with a DVD with you if you don't hog the blanket and the popcorn.

PHILOSOPHY

We've only got one shot at this, so give everything a go, and try and make your ripples in this world positive ones. This too shall pass.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love food and cooking. I'll cook. Tell me what you like (or rather what you don't like) and I'll make it.
I'm chatty, but know when to shut up. I can be quiet and out of the way, or be very involved if that's your thing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had the most amazing experience doing it in 2013, and keen to make the most of it again in 2018. I love the concept of picking someone compatible to stay with, pulling into a city, going where the locals go and making great new friends.

Interests

I love to fill my days with creative things. I play music constantly (my vinyl collection is getting pretty big!), I work in theatre so love seeing live shows, I love watching, making and writing for film, love good food, cycling keeps me fit and I always have a little silly project or two on the go.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I love blues, the oldies like The Beach Boys, Elton John, The Velvet Underground, Television, Tom Waits, Talking Heads etc, was huge into indie/alt rock growing up: Modest Mouse, The Shins, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, The White Stripes, Belle and Sebastian, but I also love chill electronic stuff: deep house, ambient, techno as well as a new appreciation for RnB. I could talk music for hours.

I love movies, I studied film making and worked in cinemas for years. I love thrillers, can’t do horror well, dark comedy and looooove really good writing. Ditto with TV.

I really love Christopher Isherwood, Roald Dahl’s adult fiction, Spike Milligan, The classics and Tintin of course.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I drove by myself through Iceland.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach: guitar, cooking, DSLR photography

Would love to improve my German, learn the drums, learn local dishes around the world to cook back home, see locally made films (even if I don't speak the language). Read more books (maybe with good translations if I don't know the language!)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I’m good at cooking - I spent years as a Vegan so can cook good animal free yummies, however now I’m far more lazy and eat most things (but mostly vegetarian).
