About Me

Hi guys :)

I am currently working at Balmer's Hostel in Switzerland, but I grew up on the island of Jersey just of the coast of France. I studied Aerospace Engineering at the University of Bath and then went on to work for Rolls Royce designing jet engines for a year, before I got really depressed and moved to Paris to work in a hostel.

I am trying to become a filmmaker and I am currently writing a Netflix series, which probably will never get picked up, but what sort of attitude is that? I have had plays that I've written be performed, but I much prefer the medium of writing for film, I suppose I think more in terms of cameras than I do a stage.

My main hobby at the moment is paragliding. I learnt as soon as I moved to Switzerland and have been flying ever since. I recently went to Turkey for a month to train acrobatics over the sea, which was incredible, but there's nothing like flying as the sun is setting over the Swiss Alps :)

I'm really friendly, some people think I'm funny, others don't. Meeting new people is one of the many joys of being a traveller and I hope to continue this trend on this platform - I'm excited to see where it leads!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Having worked in hostels for two years, and having stayed in them for five, I'm pretty fed up of them!

I love meeting new people, but I also love getting a taste of a place I stay from someone who knows the cool, funky, obscure places that would be impossible to find without them, something that I wouldn't get from an Air B'n'B.

I am entirely new to couch surfing, but a lot of the people I meet at work have raved about their experiences with locals and so now I feel it's time for me to try it for myself :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a strange and varied music taste; it really depends on what mood I'm in. I like everything from the Red Hot Chili Pepper to Joni Mitchell to Talking Heads to Led Zepplin.

Movies again I love everything really, good or bad. Mostly I watch lots of dark arthouse movies that are so obscure they've probably only been seen but a few hundred people, so it's nice to watch a light-hearted rom com every now and again! As long as the writing is good, I don't really mind what the film is; I'll be fixated :)

I am not a huge reader; I've actually only ever read six books myself, but my mum is a huge book lover and it's always a joy to hear about what's she's reading. So I would be more than happy for you to educate me about your current reads!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Paraglided with skis off the Jungfrau mountain!

Teach, Learn, Share

I was an engineer in a former life, so I'm pretty handy if you have anything that's broken and needs fixing! Beyond that I have a lot of random knowledge but can't really think of anything specific I can teach you, unless you're really interested in aeroplanes or cinema :)

Learning is one of my favourite things to do and so if there's anything at all you can try and teach me I would be grateful and be a model student!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love sharing food, wine, gin, whisky, stories, conversation, hugs, laughs, tears, walks, bus rides, train rides, movies, TV shows, plays, musicals, thoughts, opinions and travels. But nothing else.
