About Me

I've lived in New York my whole life till moving to Denver to try something new.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Well this sounds pretty cliche but I want to explore the world and meet new people while I'm young. Obviously I don't have that much money but I think this is really the best way to travel. I think it's very important to see how other people live and how where they live shapes their perspective. There seems to be a great communal spirit inherit in the idea of Couchsurfing.

Interests

I love comedy and I do standup a lot as I mentioned. I also ride my bike around a lot. I see shows all across NYC and travel as much as I can. I'm interested in history and philosophy both of which I have considered studying at school. Learning about cultures and their mythologies is one of my main motivations for travelling as much as I do. I try to keep up with world news and politics while staying with what's going on around me. I like to think I'm in touch with my Irish heritage so I see a lot of trad music and bands like Dropkick Murphys.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm big into the Grateful Dead and Tolkien. My mom followed the Dead during the 70's and 80's and she passed her love of them onto me. I've seen all the offshoot bands a bunch of times (Phil and Friends, Bob Weir, Dark Star Orchestra). Also I saw them in Chicago in July at Soldier field, it was insane. I've read everything Tolkien has ever written so it's hard to say which book is my favourite but I really like Children of Hurin something from the earlier mythology of Middle Earth. I know a lot about the creation of Tolkien's world. In terms of cinema I'm into Mel Brooks and Woody Allen. Of the movies I've watched recently the best has been Chasing Amy or Hannah and Her Sisters.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was a youth volunteer for Occupy Wall Street during the most tenuous moments of the Zucotti Park resistance. I witnessed a lot of violence both by the police and protestors and I saw the movement gradually fragment and die. It started out with a lot of promise but lacked a clear message or leadership.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer my host detailed knowledge of NYC if they were to ever consider travelling there. I know most of the great places to go that that a book probably won't list. I can also be pretty handy around the house and can fix most issues that don't have to do with electrical/plumbing stuff. I am also pretty tech savvy so I could fix most computer problems. My mom has a problem almost everyday with figuring out how to log on to Facebook. Also my own tales from my travels and world view.
