I'm Scottish, 30 years old I have been teaching English abroad for the last 7 years. Currently I am in Brazil, which is amazing. Before that I worked in Scotland, South Korea and Austria. I started my journey in 2008 and quickly realised that teaching was an amazing way of experiencing and enjoying the real side of every country. At the moment I'm working at UNESP in Sao Jose do Rio Preto, and enjoying the coxinhas, caipirinhas and capivaras of this nice city!

Describe myself is the worst and hardest thing to do...

I love music, education, culture, people, art, travelling, sports...but most of all animals! Especially the ones that nobody likes!

I like to travel because you can meet new people and learn a little about the culture of that place. I love calm places where I can have the contact with nature, enjoying the peace and the beauty showed there. That's the kind of place where you can go, relax and keep in contact with yourself. However I like the vibrancy of a busy city and the buzz of the different night life that a city can offer.

I believe that you need to be open to everything. All experiences will teach you something special that you weren't aware of before. You must be open to new facts, to try something different and not be afraid to experience things outside of your comfort zone.

There are no truly bad experiences, everything will be unique and it will depend on the way you look at it. Trying to understand and learn something from each moment is the key to gaining a fuller appreciation for the different things in the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I couch-surfed for the first time just last year. I stayed with a couple of really nice people in Lisbon, Portugal. They showed us around the city, we met their friends, we went out at night with them and ate with them and partied in their house. It was a completely different and unexpected experience and totally transformed our holiday in Portugal. It was great. I joined couch surfing so that I have the opportunity to give some of that amazing generosity back to fellow travellers.
