About Me

Hey, I'm Ben (: I find it a little difficult to talk about myself admittedly, but here goes...

Whether I am aware of it or not, I tend to live my life by the following philosophy, 'Everybody dies, nothing is permanent. Live in the moment'. Maybe a bit morbid to some, but it keeps me grounded.

I have been described as laid-back, polite, tidy/minimal and respectful. I love:
- Family & Friends.
- Dark Jokes/Humour.
- Smash 4 for WiiU.
(But in terms of travelling)
- Exploring whether I'm in nature or in a city.
- Trying new food like a legitimate Horse-burger.
- Meeting interesting people, although frankly I'm not particularly skilled at conversation or social situations.

I haven't discovered my greatest fear yet, but I am not fond of bugs. Although I would probably eat a cooked one, haha. I saw my first Cockroach in Hong Kong and it was disgusting!

By nature I can be quiet, especially when tired. Additionally I don't like to drink or go clubbing for that matter, but if I like the music then I can dance (just not that well, haha).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

3 Things:
- People.
- Exploration.
- Good Food.

Interests

For the last year my time has been largely dominated by Smash 4 for WiiU. I just cannot get enough of this game, hence why I'm bringing a controller with me so I can find some games on my travels. I went to London at the start of May to attend a tournament called Albion. Just wow. I had a blast and learnt so much. 10/10. I've been to a local tournament in Hong Kong and Seoul which I placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. I learnt a lot and I plan to come back at some point for another go!

I recently picked up reading again after a very long time. Currently reading Tuf Voyaging by George RR Martin, although I haven't got that far just yet.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: My favourite Music is changing constantly. Recently started listening to Odesza which I'd highly recommend. For the longest time Dubstep was my go to genre, but I've been branching out into Trap, Drum & Bass, House & Rap.

Movie: I'm not one to watch TV or a Movie, let alone actually re-watching one. But the exception to this rule is Serenity. I watched it at least 10 times before I even knew what Firefly was. Great movie, might have to watch it before I leave on my travels...

Book: Probably the best thing I've read in years, perhaps ever. Type Worm into Google and find the URL that shows Parahumans. Jump into Chapter 1 and thank me later. It's a web serial, but I love it. I would also recommend the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss & the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2014 I planned and carried out a 2 & a half month solo backpacking trip around South East Europe. I travelled from Budapest to Ljubljana to Zagreb and then down the Croatian coast to Zadar & Split, along the way visiting Plitvice & Krka National Parks. I went inland to Mostar and then took the best train journey of my life to Sarajevo. I left, heading to Dubrovnik and the island of Lokrum which had 17 peacocks that I counted. After, I went to Kotor and spent almost 2 weeks relaxing in amazing scenery. Finally onto Podgorica for a few days before I flew home.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I've passed my TEFL, but I've never taught anything before so my help in actually teaching English may be limited.
Learn: Anything you're willing to teach. Languages, card games, cooking, astrophysics.
