Hey I'm Ben, I live in a small seaside community called Purakaunui about 25min from the centre of Dunedin. I have 2 cats who are super friendly and relaxed, one is too relaxed, trying to get her on a diet. Anyway I work full time as a residential builder in Dunedin and the surrounding areas so I'm always looking to escape the grind by doing as much as I can in my spare time. I'm an outdoors person hence living where I do, the scenery is nice to get home to!

I really love meeting people and showing them around. I live by myself currently so have 2 spare couch beds and a single bed and would really like to help people out on their travels by offering those. Maybe the references will help me when I'm free to travel in a couple of years.
I normally leave for work at 7:15am and come home around 5:30 so since I'm slightly out of the way I don't mind giving people a ride in or out either.

I pretty much like most music out there but mostly into electronica and reggae and some rap. That's way too restrictive though as I really do like all sorts apart from whatever the current mainstream trash is. Movies and books - I wish I made more time for them.

I drove a boat down from Wellington to Dunedin on the tail end of a big storm mid way through 2016. I was held off in Wellington for almost a week waiting for a gap in the weather and thought I had waited long enough as I left early one morning into the shining sun. My deckhand pulled out so I was on my own, about 1am the following morning maybe 20 miles off the coast of Kaikoura I got absolutely hammered as the storm picked up again, it was completely dark with the moon being hidden and there was so much spray in the air, waves we're breaking over the front of the boat. It was pretty unpleasant with the thought of some sort of mechanical failure with the boat in the back of my mind and the general discomfort of punching through breaking waves out at sea. I made it to Christchurch 26 hours later after the slow going and then to Dunedin 22 hours after a rest in Akaroa. In itself it was something I'd rather forget but it was a memorable start to a chartering business I intend to run in years to come. I'm aiming at getting people outside particularly locals and school groups etc to see the Dunedin coastal environment for as little as I can charge.
