About Me
I have recently embarked on a 10 month trip, travelling solo through Africa and Europe, before meeting up with my best mate to do North America together. I am currently studying to become a physiotherapist, and decided that now would be a good time to gain some worldly knowledge before engaging in full-time work. I love sports and the outdoors, without being totally cliche, this includes me being open to new experiences. I would describe myself as relaxed and easy going, with a good sense of humor (which every man and their dog would probably say ahaha). My dream in life is to open my own business (physiotherapy related or not) and ideally work to travel, or even both at the same time!
In the past I have only been to Cambodia. I was there for 3 weeks on a volunteer trip organised with my High School. We visited two small villages where we helped teach (English and Maths) and build sustainable gardens. I became really close with a boy named Samon, who probably taught me more Cambodian than I was able to teach him English. He grew up as a single child with his Mum and loved soccer. Saying goodbye to him was the hardest thing on that trip and I hope it will be a similar story for the people I meet through Couchsurfing.
I am also organised and tidy - just for a few bonus points if your counting :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I signed up for Couchsurfing because I want to get involved with the places I visit on a deeper level than just ticking off things to see. I know from living in Melbourne that the best things to do and places to visit are the small hidden gems. The places that you only stumble upon by mistake or hear through word of mouth. Not on a blog that lists the top 10 Must Do's. Therefore, by staying with locals I hope I can have a better opportunity at engaging with the culture and community I find myself in.
I also see Couchsurfing as a great opportunity to make strong connections with people as its basis is a lot more personal. Instead of booking a room you are being invited into a home and a family. I feel this is a great way to build a bond with someone that would with last longer than the duration of my stay.
Currently most of my friends also do not seem mature enough to engage in meaningful conversation, so it would be very helpful to talk to people with a perception on life that extends further than the gossip on the girls from your high school.
I hope that my experience on Couchsurfing will also allow me to learn a lot about myself and other cultures around the world, while also being able to share different aspects of my own culture. My ultimate goal is to find people who share a similar passion and will showcase their community.
I am also a little bit nervous about my lack of travel experience and think this is the best platform to really challenge myself, my thoughts and attitudes in life by engaging directly with new cultures.
