About Me

Hi! I'm an open minded and friendly guy, I love traveling and it's cool to meet people with new perspectives. We all bring something unique to the table!

Some quick facts:
I'm a Kombucha Brewer.
I have 3 cats 2 dogs, and 5 chickens! (Ask me about my chickens!)
I love coffee.
I play trombone and a bit of guitar.
I'm a jazz and concert musician and I've played some rock too.
During the school year I get to live in an apartment in my church in exchange for daily work. Ask me about my place!
I am very interested in sustainable, traditional, and humane foodways. Love to read Joel Salatin and Michael Pollan. I'm a vegetarian in the USA but am willing to be flexible to properly experience a country's foodways.
This summer I will be travelling to Scotland for a Geology field camp, and then will be visiting London, Amsterdam, Paris, Salzburg, and Munich before flying out to Iceland to backpack the Laugavegur.
I know very little about movies or pop-culture :/
Megabus is maybe my favorite medium of transportation ever.
I love nature. Show me your favorite walk/hike! Urban or wild: it is all fun.
I sing contratenor in my church choir at the beautiful Chapel of the Cross at in Chapel Hill, NC.
Cooking is a passion of mine. Let me cook for you!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am a broke college student. But I love traveling, and I'm excited to at last do it independently. I'm looking forward to making friends all over the world and learning along the way!

I also appreciate the atmosphere of openness and welcome from this community and I'd like to be a part of it.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen mostly to Jazz and Rock, with a fair amount of Concert/Classical thrown in!
My favorite rock bands are Alice in Chains, Nirvana, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Some of my favorite jazz artists are J.J. Johnson, Miles Davis, Clifford Brown, Horace Silver, and Cannonball Adderley.

My family owns the entire Harry Potter series on Blue Ray and literally almost nothing else.
I've read the entire series at least twice.
My favorite book I've read was probably Steinbeck's "East of Eden": an absolute masterpiece.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent a summer travelling around the Pacific Northwest as an intern with the Bureau of Land Management.
I faced off with a bear alone in the woods.
I've road tripped with my Mom across the west coast. I even got her to camp.
I swam across the Rio Grande in Big Bend National Park from Texas into Mexico and back.

Teach, Learn, Share

Let me cook for you!

Always looking to soak up wisdom and talk about life experience.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Would be totally down to cook some of my family's specialties if you wouldn't mind me hijacking the grocery list. Also I dabble in culinary improvisation if you would rather not change the grocery list!

As a surfer, I carry my own sleeping bag, sleeping pad and towel, so I can be as self-sufficient as possible. Couchsurfing is about meeting new people and helping travelers as we are able, and so as a surfer I want to be respectful and grateful for the gift of space a host is sharing with me!
