About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm a recent college grad of Michigan State U, and am currently on the hunt for a job in the field of Green Building or sustainable development. Love to adventure and experience new things (especially new brews.) As of right now I'm on a road trip westward across the States in search for interesting people, places, and ideas.

PHILOSOPHY

I live life to experience new things, meet new people, and try and help the world to keep on spinning nicely after I'm gone.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm pretty new to the CS scene, and having joined while traveling I'm currently just looking for potential hosts as I make my way across the country. As soon as I settle down with a place of my own however I'm excited to start hosting as well!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed on two couches now on my travels across the states and both have been great experiences. I can't wait to have a couch of my own so I can become part of the host community that helped me out.

Interests

I love exploring, whether that be my home town, my college campus or the US, I love finding new places to experience. I'm also a music junkie who will listen to anything once, and I've got a fairly eclectic taste and collection (thanks Dad)... I'm an engineer (civil) by trade, or at least that's what my degree says but I'm also an avid environmentalist. Those two passions have really combined into one colossal love for sustainability (of all kinds) but particularly green building. That is, the process of building (or rehabilitating) buildings/houses such that they have the smallest environmental footprint possible.

I'm a sucker for futurology, I grew up reading Sci-Fi and I can really get caught up talking about crazy hypotheticals for saving/changing/enhancing the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music? - Most. My favorite artist is Miles Davis, largely because he never stopped evolving as a musician. Some other things that you might find me listening to on an (a)typical day are Bluegrass, Progressive Rock, Electronica, Blues, Jam, Soul, Trance... the list goes on.

Although I'm a fairly liberal guy, my favorite book is probably Atlas Shrugged, largely because I get so caught up in Ayn Rand's writing style, but I also agree with the philosophy to a certain degree. I have also read a lot of science fiction for example Dune, Neuromancer, Ringworld... Some Tom Wolffe, some Kerouic, again the list goes on.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Maybe it's because they are both very recent, however I'd have to pick Bryce Canyon in Utah and Veedauwoo in Wyoming.
Hiking from the top to the bottom of the canyons at Bryce (all the while wondering if the thunderstorms in the distance were going to manifest themselves upon us) was quite an amazing experience, especially for someone who had hardly been west of Chicago his entire life. More recently, I camped out at Veedauwoo while visiting a friend at the University of Wyoming and hiked various trails the next morning. It was truly mesmerizing, and I can't wait to go back for more.
