First Trip to Europe on the Horizon: Summer 2013

ABOUT ME

I'm a native Marylander who has not, up until now, done a steller job exploring the country and/or the world. I'm starting this Summer with a West Coast bike trip. I'm excited to visit parks, enjoy the outdoors, and meet people from all different walks of life.

PHILOSOPHY

I recently read Mitch Albom's "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" and found the final sentence of the novel particularly awesome:

"Each affects the other and the other affects the next, and the world is full of stories, but the stories are all one."

People pursue unique and beautiful adventures in a world that creates a web of human interconnection. I love meeting people, learning about communities, and emerging myself in new experiences. As a teacher, I figure the next few summers are amazing opportunities to do just that.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couch surfed a few times as I travled through the Pacific Northwest and had a great experience.

Music - I'm not an avid follower of particular bands and I listen to top 40 radio way more than is healthy for me. That being said, I appreciate quality music when I hear it. Brand New, Knaan, OAR, and Matt and Kim are a few of my current favorites on my running mix.

Traveled via bicycle from Vancouver BC to San Francisco CA during the Summer of 2012. It was an incredible experience.

I can juggle (3 balls) with relative ease and shoot a mean jumper. I'm pretty fluent in the issues surrounding public education, particular urban education.

I'm open and interested in learning about things, but a few things I'd love to learn more about are gardening, local agriculture, and meaningful work experiences abroad.
