About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Well, I'm trying this out so that I no longer let my limited means get in the way of visiting other cities.
ABOUT ME
I like to have fun.
PHILOSOPHY
I wrote this a while ago, not actually for Couchsurfing, but for facebook. I guess it qualifies as personal philosophy. It's purely for fun, I swear!
With each passing year, as I advance in age, as I slowly march towards death (ha, ha,) and as perspective inevitably finds its way to the core of my being, I think it's appropriate enough to put together a list of the things I believe in. To share it on Couchsurfing.com? Maybe that wouldn't be quite as advisable, but it could be funny as hell. I'm always up for a laugh, so here goes nothing.
I believe that adults should treat children with more kindness. They haven't had a lot of time to develop, cognitively, and are typically more energetic. They are usually very sweet and innocent and, forgivably, annoying. Really, I think everyone should treat each other with more kindness.
I believe that it's fine and dandy to change one's position when new facts come in or there's simply a change in perspective caused by, hmm...I don't know...anything.
I do not believe in Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy or the Easter bunny and I'm not sure I ever did, really. I DO believe that our government, in theory (let's not get ridiculous, here) works pretty much as it would be outlined in a course at the collegiate level concerning itself with such affairs. I am aware this is only theory, and that our elected officials are unduly influenced by outside factors, that many (if not all) are bought and controlled. Anyway, it's not simply a show. If the "powers that be" want to influence government, they must buy and control these officials, as they (the officials) actually do legislate and make policy and control budgets. So there is no conspiracy. I'm not saying there isn't graft and corruption; there is, but the government functions.
I believe that when a man agrees to copulate with an ugly woman that he should treat her with respect and dignity and that she, in turn, should not tell ANYONE about what will soon transpire. Additionally, I feel that if this act results in the magical miracle of conception, that the man should do the decent thing, accept the hand that life dealt him, and marry the woman, attempting every day to convince her that he loves her and is happy with the condition of their lives. I stood by this belief.
I believe my ex-wife was not a very appreciative person.
I also believe that a woman should never agree to copulate with an ugly man, unless he has a good heart. An ugly man with an ugly heart should never have a chance to contaminate the gene pool. But, they always do. They usually have money.
I believe everyone should read more.
I believe that we should learn to appreciate each other. I imagine that it probably wouldn't bring much solace to some people when I assure them of how much we can learn from one another, because they don't like to learn, but maybe if they were made aware of all of the great things to eat, fun things to do and beautiful people to look at, they would understand what it is they are missing.
I'm a dyslexic, agnostic insomniac. Sometimes, I stay up all night, wondering if there is a Dog.
That was just a joke, everyone.
I believe there are a lot of great changes in our world's future, changes that have been promised. Changes like a "world economy" and an achievable living wage for everyone; maybe even a fair shot at healthcare for those who currently don't have that advantage. I'm not sure we will see all of these changes in our lifetime. Sorry. I think it will get better, though.
Unfortunately, I believe that we will continue to kill each other until the end of time. I do think that it's going to be rarer and rarer as we continue to civilize. Look at when Russia invaded Georgia; we were all so shocked! It seemed crazy that in modern times such a thing would happen in such developed nations, though I did find that this didn't seem to impress some people.
I believe that Pepsi has no place in a bar. It's Jack and COKE, damn it! That is all that needs to be said regarding this.
I believe that I can drink your girlfriend under the table. I may try it out, sometime. Have fun at work.
I believe that we enhance our lives when we choose extracurricular activities that require some sort of skill-building. I invite you all to learn to play an instrument or take a dance lesson or maybe go to an open-mic at a comedy club.
I believe we should all exercise a little more. I'm convinced that the best weightlifting exercises continue to be the powerlifting moves and they're corresponding assistance lifts, though I'm an advocate of calisthenics and appreciate what can be gained with the Olympic lifts. I think all machines suck. Treadmills suck. Forget kettle bells. Screw all that trendy nonsense.
I also believe in the food pyramid, though there are obviously better choices within the available foods. A serving of whole grain carbohydrates is obviously better than a serving of simple carbs; a serving of blueberries is better than a serving of grapes.
I believe this will not be read by many people.
I believe that I have, gathered here, a fair enough sampling of some of the great people who have passed through my life, and for that, I'm thankful. It has been an incredible journey and I'm sure it will continue to be one. This life of mine, humble as it has been, has had its ups and downs; more than its fair share of failures and, hopefully before its end, will be filled with a respectable amount of achievements. I would like to think that I will, one day, get a chance to show those off to you.
I believe this year has been a lot better for me than last year. I hope the same can be said for you.
I believe in the power of love; I really do. I believe in our future. I believe in humanity. I believe there's hope for us, after all.

Music, Movies, and Books
I have always been fond of the 20th-century American Novel. My favorite three authors are John Steinbeck, Upton Sinclair and Kurt Vonnegut.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I guess I've done some pretty cool stuff.
Teach, Learn, Share
I find that I have always involved myself in skill-building activities for recreation. It can be music, skateboarding, boxing; it seems now that it's dancing. I don't want to spend my life watching television.
