About Me

CURRENT MISSION

making friends, influencing people, investing in myself

ABOUT ME

Can't host at the moment.

PHILOSOPHY

I wrote all of the following profile ten years ago and am amazed at how little is worth changing.

Don't depend on plans, but do make them.

Talk a lot and listen a lot.

Going places for a purpose is better than getting away from places, but getting away from places is cool some of the time.

Tolerance is important and love is good, but respect is better than either.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couchsurfed in Israel and Mexico. The last few people I've hosted have been friends of friends who introduced us. I can't host regularly in NYC, but maybe once a month or so. I love how Couchsurfing is both a social networking website and a lifestyle.

Most of the music I like is old, or sounds old:
The Kinks, The Velvet Underground, The Doors, The Byrds, Tim Buckley, The Doors, Buddy Holly, Rory Gallagher, The Beatles, Rod Stewart, Fairport Convention, Nick Drake, John Martyn, Devendra Banhart, Six Organs of Admittance, Pentangle (and Bert Jansch solo), Davy Graham, The Yardbirds, R.E.M., Television, Caetano Veloso, Os Mutantes, Gilberto Gil, Jorge Ben, Kaveret
My favorite classical composers are Debussy, Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin.
My favorite movies are:
The Barbarian Invasions, The Long Goodbye, Adaptation, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Squid and the Whale, The Butcher, I'm Not There, Blow-Up, Kiss Me Deadly, Blue Velvet, Love Actually, Sunset Boulevard, City of God, Citizen Kane, 2001
Books:
Slaughterhouse Five, 1984, The Great Gatsby , The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Stranger (Camus), Tropical Truth: A Story of Music and Revolution in Brazil (Caetano Veloso), White Bicycles (Joe Boyd), and others

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once tried to have a conversation with Bert Jansch in Philadelphia. He just smiled a little bit and said about five words.
I also raised the roof to Arabic-language pop music while riding on the King's Highway from Aqaba to Petra.
