About Me
Interests
Currently I'm in law school after a pretty major career change from physics. It's pretty cool coming back to couchsurfing and updating my profile, seeing how much my interests have changed over the years. I'm becoming a lawyer to represent low-wage workers and unions, to do my part to try and get us a fairer deal. I'm on the left side of the political spectrum. One of my favorite things about couchsurfing is the chance to talk to folks of all political persuasions. I believe that there's much more that unites us than divides us.
Before law school, I studied quantum information theory for my master's degree, but I've always been mostly attracted to the philosophical side of physics. What is the relationship between mind and matter? What is the difference between knowledge and belief? What can we say about the world as it exists independent of perception? These are the questions I was asking... the answers I found left a lot to be desired.
The main reason I left the city is to be closer to the woods. I love mountains in every season; hiking, camping, you name it. On my upcoming road trip I'm hoping to spend a lot of nights camping. If our paths cross and you want to go for a hike I'm almost definitely interested. After college I lived and worked on a ski resort for a season and fell in love with it; I'm hoping to end up somewhere I can ski regularly.

Teach, Learn, Share
I know a good bit about modern physics and I like to think I'm pretty good at sharing the interesting parts without getting disgustingly technical. [Update: After a few years out of grad school, I've forgotten essentially all the math and remember only the interesting parts.] I can also teach you to brew beer, though I'm no professional by any means! I love learning new things from new people. If you find it interesting, odds are that I will too.
If I'm staying with you in a new city, and you have time, I'd love to see what you think are the coolest / most fun places in your city.
