One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw a sea otter running along the beach on the Lost Coast trail. I'd never seen one on land before. I thought it was some kind of messed-up dog monster. I shouted, "What is that?!?!" Then it dashed into the waves, and I realized: it was a sea otter.
True story.

Also: the first time I saw fireflies (thousands floating over a field at dusk in Minnesota) and the last time I saw fireflies (during a power outage in Quepos - the only lights other than stars).
