About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I´m just trying to fill the huge gaps in my knowledge and experience, and increase my understanding of what makes people tick (myself included!).

ABOUT ME

I like people who are open-minded, quirky, and see the funny side of most things, though I also like a serious debate in the wee small hours of the morning! I like a bit of adventure, though I´m not a hard-drinking party animal (any more? was I ever?).

PHILOSOPHY

Try everything once, except for incest and country dancing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I wasn´t sure about couchsurfing until I accidentally attended a couchsurfing party in La Paz - everyone was lovely and so welcoming! I´d like to be part of that more often!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

See above! Just lost my virginity!

Interests

Photography, travel, football (oh, OK, soccer...), cycling.

Music, Movies, and Books

Hollywood blockbusters don´t really do it for me. I like films and, more often, books that get under characters´skin and challenge perceptions. Favourite book - Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Also love Sergio Leone films. Love music - favourite band is Radiohead, though I´m into electonica like New Young Pony Club at the moment, as well as ´world music´, whatever that means...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The 3 Peaks Challenge - climbed the highest ´mountains´ in Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours - amazing because 1) I couldn´t see anything at the top of any of them and 2) I can still walk, somehow!

Teach, Learn, Share

If you are dying of thirst, dig a hole, urinate in it, put a container in the middle, cover the hole with a plastic bag (I always carry one - forget the towel in The Hitchhiker´s Guide to the Galaxy...), weigh it down with stones or sand, and put a stone in the middle. The evaporating water will condense on the plastic and drip down the slope into the container. Try it in your garden if you are really bored...
