About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My goal in life is to keep an upbeat disposition and enjoy whatever life throws, tosses, hands or kicks my way.

ABOUT ME

I love playing games. And really, I could enumerate upon this, but it would simply be an endless list of game names and styles because I haven't yet found a game that I really didn't like. It's true that these days most of the games are board or card games, but given the chance, I'd jump into a kickball or dodge ball or baseball game in a heartbeat.

I also love surprises -- both giving them and receiving them. By surprise I truly mean simply encountering the unexpected and unanticipated. I revel in moments when I can startle someone else ... making that person's heart flutter and blood race ... and I similarly enjoy it when someone else can catch me at unawares ... although that doesn't happen quite as often. Surprise visits, surprise messages, surprise presents ... all are wonderful to me.

I love humor -- especially when it's not the "right time" for a joke. I think that laughter helps keep us young and in a healthy state of mind, so I find myself laughing more often at myself (often when I'm home alone and have done something foolish) than at others ... and I like it that way. I think it's important to be quick to chuckle and smile, for those emotions will seldom get one into an unpleasant predicament.

I love language -- especially when it gets turned and bent because of intent or happenstance. I believe that language is at the core of who and what we are, so to dismiss it lightly sacrifices some of that innate importance. On some level, using language to create is, in my opinion, a primary way we emulate the Divine, for as He created through speech ("Let there be..."), so also can we create and give life by letting words flow from our lips or slide off our fingertips.

I love eating. And I have 32 sweet teeth. So when these two things get together, I manage to consume all sorts of delicious things. And because I'm unhindered by any food allergies, anything/everything gets at least one fair shake before it's dismissed or added to the "always will eat" list. Most often things make it to the latter.

I love reading, but I find that I rarely pick up books these days because I fill my life with too many other things. I'm a binge-reader, so when I start a new book, I want nothing more than to ingest the book's contents as quickly as possible, thus when I start a good book, I will let everything else -- save work itself -- fall to the wayside. Consequently, I don't let myself read too often ... otherwise I would become even more of a recluse than I already am.

I love, love, love music. I love the way good music isn't just a sound that bounces around my ear bones and tickles its way into my brain; on the contrary, it's a visceral, whole-body experience. When I hear good music, I can feel it resonating inside, moving from the tips of my toes to the end of each hairy follicle. Music remains a catalyst for both movement and emotion because it truly is a synthesis from the two.

I love dancing and moving. Now, most often my dancing is better left behind closed doors, and for those closed doors I am forever indebted, but my own ineptitude doesn't hinder my ability to witness the beauty and passion in other people's motions. As much as I love moving myself, so also -- and probably to a greater degree -- do I love watching others perform.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy reading and watching movies, although I find that I often keep too busy to do either of these as much as I could. When I'm at home, I have music playing nearly all the time that I'm awake. I like a mix of old and new, familiar and foreign -- whatever feels right for that day and mood.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I helped save someone's life through a PBST stem cell donation. For me, it was practically no work at all, but it made a huge difference in that person't life (obviously). Sometimes we can do a lot ... just by being open and willing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I really like playing games. I have a bunch of board/card/dice games here, and I think they can enrich our interactions. I'm usually up for a game whenever others are around. I really like grammar; hah. English grammar, especially, is sometimes funny, but I like it nonetheless.
