About Me

Currently spending some time in Rotterdam, after 5 years in Brussels.

I'm an outdoor enthusiast. My main passions are mountains, winter sports, and cycling. Most days you'll find me riding my fixed gear bike around town (bonus points if you know what a fixed gear is), but I'm also really into bikepacking and bike touring. In the mountains, I've been snowboarding on and off since I was a teenager, and more recently discovered a passion for mountaineering as well.

I'm also a bit of a nomad at heart. I left my home country (Brazil) when I was still a teenager, and have lived in several different places since (Canada, England, Belgium, now Netherlands). My main mission in life in exploring as much of the world and as much of what life has to offer as possible. I'm still not sure what I'm looking to find, but if there's one thing that mountaineering and cycling have taught me, it's that the journey is way more rewarding than the destination.

Two important remarks about hosting:

1. I turn down any couch requests that are clearly copy + pasted and in no way addressed to me. If I'm going to host you, the least you can do is take 3 minutes to write a couple of lines telling me why you want to stay mu place and why we'd get along.

2. As I like to keep my plans flexible, I prefer couch requests to be sent no more than two weeks in advance.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In 2018 I decided to use CS during my first solo bike tour from Brussels to Amsterdam. Saving money on accommodation at a time when I was unemployed and counting every penny was nice, but even better was knowing that someone was waiting for me at the end of a long day alone on the bike.

Over the next few days, I found myself making tacos and discussing our travels through Brazil with my host in Breda; buying some authentic (and delicious) Dutch cheese and wool with my hosts in Utrecht; and eating Portuguese food and then hitting the nightlife with my host in Amsterdam. Needless to say, I was hooked.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music : mostly indie rock, and a good dose of 2000s emo. Arcade Fire, Of Monsters and Men, Muse, Metric, The Strokes, Chvrches, Aurora, Smashing Pumpkins, My Chemical Romance, Highasakite, El Cuarteto de Nos, Charlie Brown Jr.

Books: Lord of the Rings, And Then There Were None, A Tale of Two Cities, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Brave New World.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiking to the top of a 1,000m seaside mountain overnight, then watching the sun rise over the ocean.

Climbing Kilimanjaro and Mont Blanc (in the same year).

Cycling 230 km through the middle of the night in order to beat an impending storm in Norway.

Renting a car with two strangers in Iceland, stopping on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere to see the Northern Lights.

Blowing up fireworks on New Year's Eve in Reykjavík.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Tips about bike touring, a bike to explore town, my experiences as a helpless nomad, a good dose of dark humour.
