About Me

I know that much. I want to see as many places and learn as much as I can from other people (they are the best teachers), ride my bikes around, and move with the breeze.

My grandfather taught me that I need to exercise my mind as much as I exercise my body. Riding bikes, crashing keg parties, running through cities at night, getting a cup of coffee and taking it easy, backcountry skiing into the wild, sneaking backstage at concerts, playing tennis, visiting museums or libraries, eating amazing dinners, watching movie, reading newspapers, and sleeping are most of my activities. I am a type-one diabetic and I love trying different kind of food, so I constantly look for restaurants hidden in back alleys (otherwise I eat oatmeal and drink coffee). Unfortunately, I don't drink alcohol anymore, but I can still kick it until the break of dawn. I exercise my mind all the rest of the time with newspapers, watching the Lucas Brothers Moving Company, Lots of Broad and Intermittent Academics and Practicum with Experts.

I like hanging out and learning from people while they go about their day. I will be happy to go grocery shopping, go to work, do household chores, or whatever. It is all good. If you would let me help, I would appreciate it. I am sure we would teach each other something. I have lived in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, West Virginia, Key West, and Oregon. I worked in more fields than I have lived in different places. If you have a special subject that you live to talk about, I would like to know about it.

So, physical or mental exercises are a welcome part to each of my days.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like meeting people, learning their perspectives, and seeing how they live their lives.

If you want to check out our beaches and see what is going on in New England, I’ll leave my door unlocked.

Interests

I like being in the woods in the daytime and in cities at night (or the other way around). I believe markets are better than grocery stores. I like going to museums, libraries, cafes or whatever else is around. I usually have a bicycle and a book nearby.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is super important to me! It generally sets the mood and tempo of my day and I’ll listen to whatever fits the day. De La Soul and People Under the Stairs while hanging out on stoops. Ratatat and Kraftwerk for riding bikes through traffic. Iggy Pop and David Bowie while skiing between trees. Making coffee and listening to Beethoven, Charles Mingus, or Ruben Gonzales. Driving cars with the Clash or Kid Koala. I’ve also taken to driving my car, riding my bike, and heading off into the woods with no music but just the wind passing by.

I like movies (usually ones that make me laugh), but I’d rather be doing something. Life is usually dramatic enough.

I read John Steinbeck books but always seem to always be in the middle of Catch-22. I also read newspapers and weird legal and medical articles.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I ran through a thunderstorm to reach the top of Mt. Greylock before.

It was definitely amazing to feel intense Air pressure changes in the rainy woods. It was amazing to think (for a moment) that Nature has finally gotten the best of me and then run a little faster to outrun the storm. I could feel the thunder rumble and the charge of lightening strikes as I continued running to the summit. The high canopy, gnarly trail, and pouring rain was incredible.

Teach, Learn, Share

I was a teacher for a little while. I can teach you how to make an awesome breakfast out of whatever is in a kitchen (or within a city block:), how to analyze metaphors in the Great Gatsby, how to straighten a bike wheel or fix the shifting, how to play tennis, and what is where (and fun) in the US. If you want to get more complicated and snag a cup of coffee, let’s get it on.

I want to learn how to speak Polish and what squirrels are thinking when they stare at people. I would also like to learn what everyone else’s days are like.

I enjoy washing dishes, splitting wood for a fire, and helping with projects, big or small. I'll share anything! You can usually have the shirt off my back or the keys to my car. I mean, I have other shirts and I’d rather ride a bike, anyways.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I’ll provide coffee and share whatever I have.

I grew up in a surfing family where the mentality is always, what is mine is also yours. If you leave a note so I can replace whatever was taken, that would be cool.

If you have something to do out here, there’s a good chance that I’ll just give you a bike and a key to borrow. If you want to hang, we can have coffee in the morning and put a loose plan in motion. I usually go where the day takes me, but it always has to take me somewhere fun and educational.
