About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To realize how little I know about the world by getting to know the minds of everyone else
ABOUT ME
I am 22 years old, I was born in Des Moines, Iowa in the U.S. I moved to Ohio when I was 11, and I just finished music school in Nashville.
Music, philosophy, literature, sports... those are my passions. I love so many more things (cooking, hiking, etc.), but it would be futile to list everything. While I say that those things are my passions, they are my passions because I am only beginning to tread upon the infinite surface that is those fields. That is what I see as the beauty of life.
I think traveling is the perfect medium to learn about anything you want, and I have learned so much in my travels.
PHILOSOPHY
I follow a fairly Socratic/Platonic philosophy: All I know is that I know nothing. Call it a cop out if you will. I live life to prove it. I've done a pretty good job thus far. Everyday the world gets bigger around me, and it is a beautiful thing.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I tried to surf a bit when I was in Europe and failed. I've hosted handful of folks, and have had both good experiences and bad... almost entirely good.
Interests
Music: I love all kinds of music (I am musician in Nashville, and my principle instruments are electric and upright bass). As a bass player it is hard not to like everything because I can easily dip my hand into classical, jazz, rock, blues, hip hop, etc.
My favorite kinds of music are indie and punk rock: Decemberists, Red Hot Chili Peppers (new and old school), Radiohead, Death Cab for Cutie, MGMT, The Clash, Black Flag, Flogging Molly...
Travel: I love traveling when I can get the money. I have been to many places in the U.S. and have touched many European countries (though I've never stayed more than a week in any one of them). I've been up to Canada once, and intend to do it again next summer. I have never been to a place where I didn't learn something, and probably 7 out of 10 places I've ever been I've enjoyed. Traveling is wonderful, and I am merely a student of it.
Reading: I didn't used to like reading very much, but the past few years have changed that. I love philosophy and the classics, but I'll give anything a chance if more than one person suggests it to me.
Favorite authors: Mark Twain, Tolkien, Herman Melville, Percy/Mary Shelley, Langston Hughes, Plato, Alexander Pope, Jonathan Swift, JK Rowling

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I get to live in Nashville, TN.
I slept on the streets of Rome one night on the steps of the collonade at St. Peter's basilica.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have learned a little about a lot of things.
I am young, and I have a lot of undeveloped ideas that provide great teaching and learning opportunities
I don't speak anything but English, and I am a bit ashamed of that. I took Latin for four years in high school, and that has done me a bit of good. I love learning about other languages.
I want to hear everything you have to say! I am a good listener
