About Me

I am a grown-up Berliner from the eastern part of the city. I identify myself as a proud gay man which is why with my boyfriend I have travelled a lot to gayfriendly cities and beaches, and to gay prides all over the world, like New York, Rome, Amsterdam. So being gayfriendly is a must if you want to get along with me, being interested in gay culture is a plus.

Regarding traveling, I have lived in California and in Chile for education and work and I have many stories to tell about that.

Although I like to travel, I am also laid back and enjoy staying at home doing home activities. So if you're with me expect cooking and playing games. Which is not to say that I don't go out. I love a good cocktail and dancing to different kinds of music (preferably in gay clubs though).

My passion is singing. I am in an acapela choir, which means we don't use music instruments, only our voices. I also take lessons and my dream is to perform on a stage on my own.

For making a living I work as a scientist in mobility and urban research thereby hopefully improving the world ;-)

I am curious, tipsy, lovely, I love good food and drinks. As my identified sexuality is an important part of my life, I also enjoy talking about sex in general. If you now think "ewww, how disgusting", then I am not the type of guy you'll get along with. Of course my life is not all about that, but it's an important part.

Finally, there are two questions that drive my curiosity: I need to know where what is (because I am a geographer). And I need to know how the world sticks together!!! Do you know the children's question: "why is that?" ? That's me ;-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to get to know new people and share their experience and perception of their home town. Only that gives me a true sense of place. What is live there like? And of course: why is that where?

Interests

My passion is to sing in my pop/jazz choir songs like Telephone, Hey Ya, Fix You, Sunrise, At the Hop...

I also enjoy:
cooking with friends
drinking cocktails
chatting with friends
playing games
the sun
but also rainy days and cold dark winters when everything behind the windows is lit up with candles
the wide open sea

Music, Movies, and Books

Star Trek 1-10
Lion King
Harry Potter
Pastewka
Desperate Housewives

into many music genres, but particularly songs with a certain energy that makes you dancing and smiling (or thinking), also mainstream

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

New York Gay Pride in 2013: after the parade me and my boyfriend followed a crowd of colored people and finally found ourselves as the only whites among thousands of colored LGBT partying at Hudson River waterside. It was shocking though, because police fenced off 30 blocks and particularly Christopher pier. Since that time I am fascinated with LGBT of color in New York. If you want to hear more about that I'd love to share ;-)

Oh and I saw one of the very first Lady Gaga concerts in 2009 in Richmond. How that? Find it out ;-)

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a geographer interested in consumer behavior and decision making. In my job I develop city models that mimic such decisions and tell how a city will be in the future. So I can answer my main questions in life: "why is that?" and "where is what?"

What I Can Share with Hosts

The same is it what I have to give.

If you want to see the cool trendy places, I might be able to show you a few, but if your only interest is partying and experience the hip Berlin, other hosts might give you a better experience.

But: I can show you places in Berlin where as a tourist you would never go to. If you want to understand the place you are in, then with me you are in the correct place.
