About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Prevent my friend Owen from getting diabetes. He likes Nutella and other sweets a wee bit too much, and as a non-pretentious health aficionado - this is how I try to help.

ABOUT ME

Currently a substitute teacher in San Francisco Bay Area for bilingual Spanish Elementary schools. I just finished a month of surfing every day (33 day streak).

I grew up with four older brothers in the mountains of western North Carolina and moved to California in 2015. Growing up, we had a river about 5 minutes from our house and my brothers and I would go on "missions" to explore the acres of woods that surrounded our modest home. We usually just walked until we got bored and then made swords out of sticks to dual each other. Nevertheless, there is something special about getting into God's country and exploring the wild outdoors.

My mom was probably the one who taught me the value of travel. She and Dad join the Peace Corps after college and went to Micronesia before starting the family. They saw some pretty cool stuff, but their stories always had the connections with other interesting people and friends mixed into whatever adventure they'd gotten into.

Once I got to college, I started traveling- hoping to get some of my own stories and step out of the shadows of the siblings. I got a surf lesson from a guy in Nicaragua. Despite the instructor being high, he was a pretty good teacher. My host mom in Spain smoked constantly but cooked the best bocadillos I'll ever taste. I road camels on the Silk Road (a bit more comfortable for the girls in the group to mange the feat of ridding on the backs of those gentle beasts). I've bumped into more potential pick pockets than I care to remember, but also bumped into a few friends along the way too and forged some good friendships.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've traveled a lot and a decent bit of couchsurfing. While in Spain, I had a host family for about two months. Once we went for a hike in the Spanish countryside with my host mom's church. It was pretty much just me and a bunch of senior citizens, but super cool. We sang some hymns on the side of the hills when the old folks needed to stop for rest.

Interests

I like getting outdoors(hiking, biking, surfing) playing sports and volunteering with Young Life. I also enjoy strumming the ole guitar (only to the extent that I know how to play Wonderwall or Wagon Wheel)
