I'm from Melbourne, Australia and I run a hot air balloon company and a few other things. I love nature, the outdoors, bike riding, bush walking, football, and ultimate frisbee.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Raising a kangaroo. Contrary to popular belief, Australians do not have kangaroos as pets. Nor do we ride them to school. I do in my dreams sometimes. However i will continue that mistaken belief with this story. 1996, driving through Central Australia with my family, we stopped at a kangaroo that had been hit by a car. She was dead, but her baby was hopping around, uninjured but less than 6 weeks old. The joey had no chance of survival alone. So into our car she came. For a week she was fed cows milk, not pleasant for a lactose-intollerant animal, but we had no choice. For 3 years she lived in our suburban house in Melbourne. 14 years later she is still alive, living on my grandmother's farm outside Benalla, Australia. Apart from a 6 week vacation with a passing mob of kangaroos, she has lived on the farm with the cows for the last 11 years.
