About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To seek the Grail.

ABOUT ME

As far as I'm concerned, a life without food, books, music, art, and friendship is not a life worth living. I love people, dogs, cultures, laughing, daydreams, night dreams, Sewanee, learning, teaching, traveling, heated arguments, chilled arguments, reinventing myself constantly, hiking, jumping off tall rock formations into freezing cold water, songs, guitar pulls, people watching, being watched by people, spontaneous prose, and making lists of things that I like.

PHILOSOPHY

“If a problem is fixable, if a situation is such that you can do something about it, then there is no need to worry. If it's not fixable, then there is no help in worrying. There is no benefit in worrying whatsoever.”

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm relocating to Los Angeles to co-found a tech startup. Planning to take my time getting there and meet as many people and learn as much as possible en route... It's a long way from Nashville, but I've always favored scenic routes and new friends/teachers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I met my first couch surfer in Autumn 2012, visiting Nashville from Norway. I had such a great time getting to know her, showing her my home and learning about hers, that I decided to get involved.

Interests

Music - Playing it, writing it, working it, listening to it, studying its history, seeing it live, and disrupting business models in any way possible. I live in Nashville, and am very proud to be from a city with such a rich musical tradition. I'm also an avid reader and writer - basically I love stories in general, which ties into the love of songs and songwriting. There are too many other interests to list, really, but two that really stand out are cooking and enjoying nature. Foodies traveling through Nashville would enjoy my group of friends, because we love to cook for people and can show people some of the restaurants that won't be in the guidebooks. As for being outdoorsy, I love hiking, camping, and when the weather is right for it, jumping off something tall into the water.

Music, Movies, and Books

See 'interests' re: music :)
Across the board on movies as well... If I have a favorite, probably Fight

Club, Easy Rider or Super Mensch.

Voracious reader - love the Beats, especially Kerouac, Ginsberg, Burroughs. Also a soft spot for certain philosophers - Kant and Kierkegaard are tops. And music history stuff, biographical and business alike.

Fair warning as well, I'm a secret geek... Hooked on the Economist and read a lot of books/blogs re: software, startups, and economic issues affecting the entertainment business.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

1. Meeting my niece for the first time and being overtaken with a combination of pride, joy, protectiveness, and selfless, unconditional love.
2. Taking in the view from the summit of Mount LeConte, the 2nd highest peak in Tennessee, with two of my closest friends.
3. The first time I saw a band at the Ryman Auditorium that really blew me away (tied with each subsequent time). It is worth scoping out the schedule to see when your favorite artists are coming through Nashville and seeing a show there while you're here. It's an old brick church converted into an acoustically perfect concert venue with old wooden pews in the balcony that shakes and creaks and wobbles to the beat of the music like an old wooden roller coaster.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach - Guitar, songwriting, code, cooking, Spanish, the history of Scotch and Bourbon.
Learn - Sort of a sponge. Teach me new cooking tricks/tips. Trying to teach myself Portuguese. Help me out :)
